Everyone has been so helpful over the years with questions beyond just the Valkyrie.  My wife's car has a bad tire pressure sensor in one of her tires (left rear).  My question is simply can you just replace the sensor or is there a calibration or something else that has to be done in addition to replacing the sensor?

Thanks in advance for your help.  It will be much more cost effective for me to replace the sensor rather than taking it to the dealer.

Hey Slvrvalk1,

My understanding on most of the OEM car units, you have to replace the unit then program the car to read it.  A local tire shop should be able to do it for you at a better price than the dealer charges.  You will have to remove the tire from the rim in order to get to the sensor unit.

Hope this helps.

The car is a Lexus RX350 and it is a 2007.

JoeValkIS -  It looks like you are correct.  I found something on the internet for Toyotas.  It indicates that there is a "relearn" step when replacing a sensor.  I am going to assume that the Lexus would be the same since it is made by Toyota.

Thanks for the information.

Dave, I have a TPMS on the Valk and I assume that cars work the same.  Every sensor has a numerical code that the car computer must be aware of.  If you are replacing only one sensor you must insure that the new sensor's code is not the same as any of the other three wheels...

Contact the seller regarding your make and model, they can program it prior to shipping and then you can go through the process of the car doing a reset to learn the new sensor.
