I replaced the front pads last year using OEM Honda pads and ever since they are noisy when coming to a stop. Any suggestions before I replace the rotors? This year they are starting to get on my nerves.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Brian,

Did you apply disc brake lubrication to the pins, pistons, and clips on those pads when you installed them?  Just like a car, there is metal on metal surfaces on bike brakes that need lubrication with a high quality high temperature grease.

not sure what you mean by noisy--squealing.  My front brakes always sound like cicadas--it's the holes in the rotors I guess--but it's normal and doesn't really annoy.  What's a bit annoying is the calipers clunking on the pins, but that's not pads is also is normal.

Hello Joe,

I do not remember lubricating everything you have mentioned here. I will give this a try seeing that I have that grease now after working on the truck frontend.

Thanks,

In shoptalk there is a procedure to follow for putting the frront axle and brake back together. The first time I did brakes , I had noise until I was reminded to follow the tightening procedure. You have to leave the axle loose and apply the brakes  ( on the floor) and bounce the bike to work the front forks to center the front end and then torque the pinch bolts. The brakes are fully assembled at this point.
