I have a safety Question about the Vrederstein Car Tire DOT Age

  I just replaced my 205 -55 - 16 Michelin Pilot Car Tire with 38,7050 miles after 5 yrs. of service with the Vrederstein Dutch Sport Trac III with the 205 -60 -16 that I bought on Flea Bay for $100 & free shipping last Oct. ... My question IS : this Dutch made tire I bought was a discountinued tire and was 7 yrs. old when I bought it , is it safe to ride on because of the age ??  ... There was a big write up on the news last summer here in San Antonio about tire shops selling Car Tires to the public that more than 5 yrs. old and were coming apart or blowing out with the heat during the summer months  ... I know that under inflated tires will over heat and are prone to come apart ....They also explained that as the tire age's , the components within the tire start to break down over time , so has anybody had any problems using a car tire that's more than 5 yrs. old ???  any problems with this Dutch made tire ??  I need to find out so as not to have any surprises while I'm riding solo or with my wifey on the back .... It's one thing for you to make the decision to do something that only impacts you but with your wife on board, she is depending on you to make a good decision for her.

I had heard about this on a MC forum years ago. It was something about a 5+ yr old tire causing an accident. It was decided that 5 yrs was the expected life span of tires after that.

I look at it like this, older than 5 yr was good enough for the previous 80+ years, why is it an issue now? I believe the incident in question was a Bronco being driven too fast while taking a corner, and flipped.

If you try a google search, you might be able to find the actual posted incident, and then come to your own conclusion.

I would also agree with Punisher, if you are questioning it, then don't use it. Too bad you couldn't return it at this time, but a purchase from last Oct?
