I have a 2000 IS with both whips, radio and CB.
I want smaller antenna.  I will likely go with Firestix .
What I don't know and cannot seem to find reference too is the
size of the threaded studs that the stock antenna whips mount onto.
While I realize that this will cost me points on my man card,  I will ask any way.
What is it exactly that I need to know to order these correctly?
I think it is likely:
Thread size
Pitch ( I think that is the distance between the threads????)
The length of the threaded stud

So,  I need both the information and whether or not I have the necessary information and terminology down.

Any advise in clearing up this glaring point of ignorance on my part would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also replacing my antenna.   Just checked with my tap & die set....its 7mm 1.00.
I have a 2000 I/S.
Let me know what antenna you decide to get...I'm shopping.

I too have a 2000 Interstate and would like to change mine. My Valk sits in a heated shed but the antenna hits the door frame every time I go in or out and a shorter antenna would fix the problem. Let me know what you find that works.

Some of the Harley "shorty" antennas used a 6mmx1.0 thread. Here's one from Sierra:

That might be tapped out to 7mmx1.0 or an adapter fashioned.

I played around with other antennas but ultimately just cut the original down. I couldn't get the aftermarket antenna mounts to look decent on the IS. Yes my reception is diminished but I am using the MP3 player more anyway.

I bought an antenna from Advanced Auto.

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/metra-electronics-replacement-mast-cf-rm1r/6050138-P?searchTerm=mast+antenna

It comes with adapters. I don't use the radio much but still wanted it to work. I capped the CB antenna as I never use it. I like I can put cover on bike at night when travelling without having to mess with antennas.

The antenna is only 8 bucks, so you could just buy it for the adapters if you want to go with something else.

Thanks for all the help gentlemen.  I found what I think will be at least a good temporary solution.
Beanman put me on the trail.
I ended up with a Metra 17" Fiberglass mast, Model number CF-RMF2.
It did come with adapters and fitment was easy.
At $13.49, it was hard to beat.

I will continue to try and contact the folks at Firestiks and see if they have matching masts for both the antenna and the CB side.
