Going to replace my 4 rear shock rubber bushings with OEM since never been done ever and 30K on bike and since new rear tire going on as well might as well do it at same time.  Also replacing front/rear brake pads all around with Honda OEM being the concensus thing to do with OEM rotors.

Question:  Has anyone felt it was needed (due to wear or proper fitment of new lower rubber shock bushings (honda OEM's) to also spend another 10 bucks or so and also replace the lower rear shock collars that fit around the lower shock bushings?

Is the lower shock collars a wear item like the lower shock bushings or never needed to replace?

I need another 5-10 bucks or so to get free shipping over 99 bucks online.  If no lower shock collars needed (not sure, that is why I am asking if ever been done or needed), anything else you think will be needed in parts for a small dollar amount.  Pretty sure the dealer already installing the rear tire has decent 90 degree metal valve stems to replace the 4 year old ones replaced last tire change for a few bucks each same cycle shop.

I'd add on a kickstand bolt and spring as those are notorious for breaking when you are the farthest away from home. I'd also get one or two exhaust header cap nuts. I just found one of mine missing today!  tickedoff

A pair of alternator brushes. About $3 +/- for 1. You need 2.

Agree.  And when I recently did mine I reused the metal sleeves/collars.  But you should be able to see if they are overly worn.

I never knew the brushes were a part you could buy as a honda part,, I assumed the alt. was sold as a unit.. Good info.

The most expensive things you will purchase, are those things you would not have needed if you had listened and obeyed.

Why VTX 1800 poly bushings vs. Valkyrie rubber bushings?  Are they better or last longer or ??

Good idea on the sidestand spring and pivot bolt for another 10 bucks if I need some more dough to get free shipping over 99 bucks.

So, doesn't sound like the lower shock collars on the Valkyrie need replacing usually correct,  just the rubber shock bushings that go inside, agree?

Has anyone ever replaced the lower shock collars due to whatever reason (wear)??

Also, I checked Honda OEM parts and the rear shock rubber bushings are the same on the VTX and the Valk, part# 52489-MW3-305.

Are you talking about aftermarket VTX poly (not rubber) rear shock bushings and if so, where purchase from?  Is there that much difference and if so, why?
