Did you look at the link? A Honda Valkyrie u-joint "kit" for $18 bucks........don't you find that interesting from a major bearing company?

Not only that (if it fits/works), but that boot is very interesting, if IT fits. Looks to seal out water entirely and no more whole afternoons trying to get the OE boot on (or would they both go on?). The notation of Front; 2 Sets required makes it sound like it really goes on a front wheel drive Honda auto.

Just one of those Online Stores that post so many things, that they are bound to make a mistake.
I email them to inform them of it, and if no favorable reply, chock them up to idiots and mark them off my list of future venders.
I even find Pinwall with a wrong picture sometimes (not in a few years lately).

I emailed them with questions on the product and got this reply.
Dear asiselectronicstuff,
Hello,
We are teamed up with Ebay in a program called Epids, where some of the data on our listings are provided by them. We have found that some of the data they provide on the listings is not correct and we are working hard to be proactive on the problem to ensure customers are getting what they have ordered. Due to these data errors, it has caused us to be approximately 300 emails behind. We are working diligently to get caught up on the emails as fast as possible. This has not caused us to be delayed in any of our other services, our shipments are going out on time and all phone calls are being handled. If you need to contact us with any issue, you can call us Monday - Friday 10 am - 6 pm EST at 574-293-7777. We apologize for the delay with your message, but we will answer it as quickly as we can.
Thank you SpeedOutfitters

I saw that same U-joint on eBay a year or two ago; you would think they'd have pulled the listing by now if it wasn't legit. It looks similar to the one pictured in the Rebuildable U-joint post at the very top of the tech page.

Whats really nuts is, All Balls lists the specs on this coupler as having a .940 inch diameter bearing cup. The Valk cup is .791 inch. So you have to machine out the ears on the yoke to a dangerously thin dimension or try to press fit a .940 cup into a .791 hole.......good luck with that.

I think I paid $118 a year ago from Partzilla for a new Honda U-joint. Have they gone up? Why would you risk such an important piece over a few dollars?

Do like the way it's sealed but the stock boot is still needed to prevent water from getting into the drive shaft spline area.

Why not turn down the bearing cup - much easier than boring out a yoke attached to a drive shaft. The cup will be hard and may require a grinder attachment for your lathe.

You can't replace the u-joint in the stock yoke unless you mount it centered (by the shaft splines) and mill the inside of the ears to center a clip ujoint. There are some joints you could stick in there...but without the machining on the yoke they will crater shortly.
Somebody here has done that machining...maybe they'll chime in...but as long as the stock part is available I doubt very much you can cost-effectively replace the joint with aftermarket parts.

My interest in this little project that started many months ago by other folks, was to devise a suitable lost cost repair method that would result in a joint that was at least as good as the Honda version. Previous attempts had settled on using a coupler that had undersized bearing cups but used an alternate method to secure the cups in the yoke ears.....ie, machining the inside of the ear and using a inside c-clip to retain the bearing cups. There are (in my opinion) two issues with this method, machining the width of the ear to make a surface for the c-clip weakened the already undersized yoke ear. Secondly, the diameter of the bearing cup is too small by about .001 inch.....this is about the dimension that would give a proper press fit of the cup in the ear.....without this press fit, the cup will soon begin to rotate in the ear leading to failure. My interest was to source a coupling with the proper diameter bearing cup and simply remove the staked metal in the ears, press out the old coupling , press in the new coupling, center, and reset the stakes. Easy-peasy......except.....there is only one coupling in the entire WORLD that has the proper sized bearing cups......and you guessed it, it is sourced by Honda for their u-joint and the cups are .001 inch larger than any coupling available to the public. It was fun playing with this but the end result was it is not worth the effort to produce a marginal repair that would soon (IMHO) fail. So, bottom line is, since Honda now (several months ago now) has procured a source for u-joints and the price is only about a buck twenty or there abouts.......just buy the fricking thing and be done with it.......
