Having a little trouble trying to find a 17 mm allen wrench to cut a chunk off to put in a socket what do you guys think about just getting a bolt and welding it in a socket. I think that should work only question is would there be enough bolt head surface ? Extra rid bit here for those in need is that I went to a metal shop looking for either 80 or 120 scheduled pipe to make a wrench for the lock but an the best they had was some bearing stock which was perfect. Measured the slots with a sliver of wood. Used a popsickle stick to map squares out on a piece of paper & put the 2" pipe on the paper to get the squares, next was to mark the pipe with a permenet marker and cut it out with a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel an weld it to a pipe. Pretty easy job an worked good.

Your idea is a good one. Get a bolt with a 17mm head and put 2 nuts on it and lock the 2 together. Use them with a wrench or socket to do what you need.

Yup, thanks Sandy. Can't always think with a clogged brain. Grade 10.9 which I believe is closer to a grade 8 all for $2.32. Tkink I'll also spot weld that bottom nut an just think no welding to the socket.

My first question would be why? Why remove it?
I removed mine from my bike with a drift punch. But I didn't need to put it back on.

Really good idea,,,, I haven't made those tools yet, but when I do I'll remember the bolt.

Isn't the back end of the spark plug socket 17mm? I messed mine up trying to get the swing arm off. Now i"m using a 17mm bolt head welded to another.

NADA! Damn bolt broke. Nobody has the Allen wrench without going to snapon or Marco tools. But wait, Napa had a 17mm Allen impact socket (not 2 pieces I piece)1/2 "drive.$9. .it is a #61-5317 Carlyle tool.

Yup one end of the Honda Spark Plug socket is 17mm for just this purpose. The Standard tool kit contained all the tools you need. they arent pretty but they are functional.
