Can't get these d*#m things apart! Inside lower ones want to separate. Not the outside upper ones(on the stay plate). They aren't even thinking about coming apart! Any tips? Trying hard not to break or ruin anything. Starting to get angry.  >:(Guess I'll stop and go miniature golfing with the kids. Daughter turned 17 today. Her and her Mom are getting their nails done. I guess this is where I stop and walk away. Thanx guys!

I'm sure you thought about using a penetrating oil and letting it soak over night.? Must be some corrosion.  tickedoff

Sometimes you just need to do what you did,,, just walk away....  What salty1 said,, dissimilar metals corrode,, and the ones on the outside get more water and weather, so corrode more.  Just work on it when you have patience and time,, no steel tools, wooden blocks and wedges and a penetrating lubricant,, putting undeniable force in the correct places at the correct angles. I'm sure everyone who has done it has their own method, but I think the main thing is PATIENCE.  Attic Rat may give some clues if he sees this,, apparently he has done MANY sets of carbs,,, not sure if he separates them.

Spent the day doing family things pais???? I think that was time better spent.

Good morning, yes Poncho, spending day with family well spent cooldude.
Yes I lubed everything up in advance. Messed with them a little Sunday morning. Got one separated on each side Cheesy. Sunday was our anniversary (23yrs). She is a saint!
Probably not messing with them today. We are riding our bikes to the cemetery. We do not miss the memorial service at the cemetery on Memorial Day! In laws are coming over later. Hopefully get back at it Monday after work.
Please take an hour out your day to acknowledge what today represents. To all our soldiers past and present, Thank You.

I used two carefully placed ratchet strap loops to pull them apart. Mixed results though. When they did release the rig threw them both across the garage floor in different directions (that part is not recommended) bent one adjustment screw .... Smiley

I suggest more penetrating oil work it in as much as you can and be patient.

Well what do you know Shocked Finally got the carbs apart. Let the penetrating oil get to them for days. (Since Sunday). Hopefully start installing redeye kit tomorrow. I couldn't help but pull a couple bowls off the carbs. Floats and bowls are spotless. Looked at float needles also. They looked good too. I figure I should be able to install rail parts and put her back together. Am I missing or forgetting something?  New Pingel showed up today. Good thing. I have my fuel tank on floor under work table covered . Tues morning I leave for work. Strong smell of gas in garage. Walk over and low and behold puddle/stream of gas coming from tank. Evidently the OEM petcock decided to burp some gas. Yes, it was/is in the off position.

Even thought the ones you pulled apart were spotless....it seems a shame to let opportunity go to waste. May as well check em while you have em available?

Good morning,
Rather dreary, cloudy day here in NE Ohio. Good part as of right now, no distractions on the horizon. I should be able to get carbs back together.
Have a couple issues as I re-assemble carbs.
  1) How do I get the jet out of the air cut valve? According to my RedEye kit their are 2 O-rings on the jet. One is visible and the second is not. (Honda shop manual does not show a second one) Looks rather delicate don't want to screw this up!
  2) Their are 4 thrust springs for between the carbs. 2 are larger in diameter than the other 2. Needless to say, I did not notice this or give it the attention it deserved as I got the carbs separated. Manual does not show a difference. Anyone know the appropriate location?
     Any help will be appreciated.
   Thanks,
