new shocks. What works for me.

I have the 412's now and love them. Great for solo riding but 2 up it bottoms out or is to rough. I liked the oem I/S shocks also. Would the 412 HD be great? Kinda wanna stick with progressives that wont cost a arm and a leg. Thought on their air shocks?

I just put on Progressive 444 13" HD shocks and could not be happier. I am 375 and Pat's 130 no problem at all. There were Progressives on the bike, (98 Tourer) but I could not tell you what model. Well worth the money.

I currently have an '01 I/S sans trunk and it's equipped with a set of Progressive air shocks and an onboard compressor. Handles well when 2-up with the air pressure set anywhere between 60 and 75PSI. When solo I drop it to 30-45 or it rides a bit rough.

Either that shock or the 412HD will work nicely for you.

The 444's work for me. A pillow soft ride!

Progressive does not list the 444 as being compatible with the Valkyrie. However, with a tad bit of grinding on the hard synthetic rubber bushing side wall, the shock will mount perfect. I used a caliper to measure the gap on the bike, then worked with that measurement to fine tune the overall width of the bushing. Voilà, the 444 is now compatible with the Valkyrie!

This is an easy upgrade if you have access to a bench grinder. Some bikes can bypass the grinding, and the shock slips right in. Its the luck of the draw.

I've got calipers but honestly didn't even think to use one. I simply removed a little material at a time until the shocks fit nicely.

The 444 i bought fit like a glove, no mods necessary at all, just installed a supplied bushing on the left (break) side.

I also have recently installed the "non-compatible" Progressive 444HD shocks and love them.  High purchased the Heavy Duty springs (HD), because I ride two up and travel long distances with extra luggage weight.  When I'm one up, I appreciate the aggressive stance the heavy duty springs provide.

Is there a certain part number on the 444's? I see alot of diff 444 numbers like 444-4120C. Or they all the same?

I don't know the correct 444 part number, but with Progressive suspension, the C at the end is Chrome.  A  B at the end is black, and if you do some shopping around (always start with Amazon) with the right part number, you will usually find a very nice discount for the same model Black over Chrome.  (they are visible as you know, but pretty will tucked in in front of the hard bags)

I got them on Amazon, 444-4213c 13" HD $549.36 There was a pop up that said they would not fit on my 1998 Valkyrie Tourer but they did fit  with no problem what so ever. All I had to do was press in the right size bushing on the rear break side and I used a large "C" clamp.

Yep, 444's fit without much fuss. I would be sure you have the correct part # when ordering, be sure the spring rate is what you want. 

My first go round with 444's for my IS was an expensive mistake...got to looking at them on google shopping, ordered what I thought was correct.  Got them and installed them, and then found the spring rate was way lower than what I wanted/needed.

Turns out, even though I had searched for a particular part number, a website came up with a little different number and showed that, which was a bit cheaper than the rest....which of course I picked up thinking I would save money.   

So, having said that, the 444's meant for the Valk are very nice!

Anyone looking for a good deal on 444's for a smaller bike?

I just installed the HD 444-4221c's on my 2000 Standard. No mods to the bike or shock necessary. Did have to use an insert supplied on both shocks. Haven't had a chance for a ride of any distance yet. Lots of rain here.

Fudgie, If I remember correctly there is no HD on the box. When you ordered, you probably had to enter a Model number or something like that. If the number on the box matches what you ordered, you are fine. I've ordered more than one set of Progressives and none of them were identified as HD on the box.
