2003 Valk standard. After removing the  tank and the chrome fuel shutoff and trim piece around it I am having trouble getting it back on. There is the chrome piece with the hole in it that goes around the shutoff and three bolts and three spacers. I cant seem to get the right configuration.

I think he is talking about the chrome engine hanger covers, which are a Hondaline accessory.  It's been a while, but I THINK no spacers are used in the petcock bracket hole, 2 spacers on the frontmost hole ( 1 on each side of the coil bracket) and 1 on the bottom hole, between the coil bracket and engine hanger. Hope that makes sense. I'm going from memory.

They are a pain the butt. That's why I don't remove mine anymore. cooldude I think they are more difficult if you have tank spaced also.

Yea, after I posted that I was thinking might of been talking about the chrome hangers.  I done the stud mod to mine years ago.  I don't worry about those spacers anymore.
I remember the first time, dropping spacers and thinking I'd never find them again.

I took longer bolts and made some studs out of them.  A nut behind the hanger cover stays in place when I remove the cover...a nut in front of the cover holds the cover in place.  Makes removing it MUCH easier.

As for configuration, there are 3 bolts that go into the engine hanger.  The top left one and the bottom one gets a spacer.  The top right one holds the petcock handle (which has a spacer inside it).

Hope this helps.

Would love to see a writeup, pictures of that "stud mod".  It is a major PIA to remove the tank due to the "rube goldberg" assortment of spacers.

I will see if I can get some pictures of the process this weekend and add it to this post.  Pretty easy to do and great for removing them you have to.
