about the demise of the Valk

http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/images/discontinuedhondas/index.html

Will Honda ever get it right again? I agree with Cruiser's staement about the Valk being one of their favorite cruisers of all time.

The article really doesn't shed much light on why the Valkyrie was discontinued.  Did it just not sell?  Was it because it went against the standart V-twin configuration the most riders associate with a cruiser?  Was it just too big?

I have asked a lot of people and have never gotten a satisfactory answer.  If anyone wants to chime in please do...I would love to know. ???

Well.... My opinion is that the Valk got swept away by the "gotta have a Harley look alike" mania a few years back. The slumping sales figures bear that out I believe. Honda did replace the cruiser side of the Valk with the VTX & I guess figured the touring customer would step up to the 'Wing. That coupled with  the loss of the father & patron saint of the Valk -Joe Boyd- served the death knell to the Valkyrie.
IMHO two kinds of bikes I would LOVE to see Honda revive or make... of course a new flat 6 powered cruiser/tourer. Also a nice line of inline 4 powered cruisers {think I-4 powered Shadows} would trip my trigger.
A new F-6 based cruiser/tourer would also trip my buying trigger too!
Are you listening Honda??

Not everyone wants a V-twin powered bike you know! Roll Eyes

Long live our classic Valkyries!

I've about had it with Honda.    I love my Valk (this is my second one) and plan to keep it forever if financially possible even if I buy a new motorcycle eventually.   When Honda started making theValk and Goldwing in Maryville, Ohio I got excited that they were now American made and bought my first Valk.  Now Honda has pulled out of the USA and even though my wife has for years bugged me to get a Goldwing I think I would have to go to another brand first.  The last 5 or 6 yrs Honda has shown me that they could care less what we want here in the good ole USA so I just think I'll take the same attitude toward them, not they care and I'll buy a different brand next time.....might even consider a ....uh....oohhh...a......Harley.....but I doooo plan to keep my Valk

The only bike Honda makes that I would even consider buying would be the ST. I just don't have the extra $$$$$ and it would just sit and collect dust since I am out on the Valk every chance I get.

I once read an article where a Honda Official stated one of the major problems with the Valk and sales was the fact that it was competition for The Goldwing. Honda somehow thought the Valk would steal away some HD riders away and that did not happen in large numbers. It did give people looking to buy a Wing another option and Honda did not like that. I wish I could find the article it made some sense.

I heard they stopped making it because of higher cost of labor to produce this model.  The only bike I would consider is the Stratoliner S
