Mike had an LVAD Pump placed for the left side of the heart on Thursday and the operation went very well. He is now talking and trying to clear his head of the induced coma that lasted almost 2 weeks.  He will be in Tampa Gen a few more weeks.  The LVAD is an interesting read and really amazing. I guess he went from a manual oil pump to an electric pump.   Anyway I went over to his house changed the air con filter and run his 03 Valk the tank is almost empty so next week I will run it again and add gas, what I was wondering is should I put fuel additive in and if what type.

Glad to hear Mike is improving.  I would put in the recommended amount of Seafoam in a full tank to keep moisture out

Good news indeed, I know what he's going through. Was in an induced coma for 10 days three years ago, if it hadn't been for that pump(called a balloon pump) I might not have made it. Glad to hear he's improving. He will most likely be extremely weak, unable to stand or move much on his own for 2-3 weeks. Keep us updated on his progress, I'd like to meet him sometime down the road. Having gone through the same thing, having some encouragement might help the mental outlook. I know right now it's quite discouraging.  cooldude

There are several items you can add.

Marine Sta-bil I add a 1/2 a can to a tank when I use it.

The one of my choice is Seafoam, I put in all of the can.    You can get it at your local parts store.

There is another one that slips my memory right now, and I add a full can of it also.  We carry it in stock at the shop.

Make sure you ride the bike under 2500 Rpm's to get the solution into the slow jets.

Then let it set.

I'll only say this once, so listen up.

DO NOT JUST START THE BIKE, let it run and shut it off.

Put the additive in the gas, full tank and leave the SOB alone till you are ready to RIDE it.

Starting it and running the motor is harder on it than NO solution.

PS:  Make sure you run it below 2,500 RPM so as to get a solution in the slow jets.

I will drive it once a week if that helps with the additive choice.

I will drive it once a week if that helps with the additive choice.

It is not necessary to ride it on a short trip with the solution in it.   If you are not going to run the full tank out, I'd say let it set.    Then maybe 6 weeks from now fire it up and hang on.    Give her hell and just hang on.

I would use Sta-bil instead of Seafoam.

Seafoam is good stuff but it tends to clean up stuff from tank and fuel lines including carbs.
My Hydrolock came from running seafoam on a bike that I had no knowledge of PO upkeep, it loosened dirt which got into my carbs and caused a couple of floats to get stuck.
Seafoam would be good on your own bike since you would know of the maintenance history.

Last thing you want is to try to help and cause an issue with the fuel system.

Sta-bil in my opinion would be playing it safe and still being able to help keep the bike until he gets back on his feet.

Please keep us posted on his recovery.

Well Mike has  only 14k on the clock so she in a youngin however he had to have the Grumpster rebuild the carbs about 4months ago because of a stuck float so she is all clean and I will make sure to take her out bi-weekly, that should keep her happy.
