Not that Wikipedia is the ultimate authority on the definition of phrases, however theirs agrees with the one I have always associated with someone who is referred to as a "Kool-Aid Drinker" (which I heard well before Obama was on the political scene): The phrase "Drinking the Kool-Aid" means to become a firm believer in something, to accept an argument or philosophy wholeheartedly or blindly. There was a program on Nat Geo the other night where they took DNA samples from people all over the planet. Based on markers in the DNA they were able to trace how people spread out over the globe. The bottom line though was that all of the various "tribes" trace their origins back to Africa. So as best as I can figure, we're all African Americans. Its just a matter of how far you want to go back. Boy, am I going to have fun with the census form.

(sorry) In my opinion, the common characteristic that best described Jim Jones' followers were that they were intellectually weak. They had a notion that their needs could/would be met by following someone else rather than by assessing their current situation, taking personal responsibility and working to make their situation better. With respect to your question about "Who is Gibbs". He is the President's stumbling press secretary, whose oratory skills make George Bush (sorry George) look like the captain of the Oxford debate team. |
