Also, does anyone know what the ohms value of the ignition wire resistors should be? Can't seem to find a spec on that. Mine range from 4.67 - 4.99. Thanks.

They're a nominal 5K ohms. +/- 10% of that is fine. So anywhere from 4.5K to 5.5K ohms. And you're right, John's write up is great.

OK, here's what the wires look like before installation. Looking good so far but I still want to see it when it's all done.  cooldude

Thanks for the guidance, and posting the pic John. I will send updated pictures soon. Bike is stripped down, parts going for paint, Woody's audio fairing, and Daryl's (f6customs) gauge relo kit due anytime now...Yay! and once I get my carbs all straightened out (see new post "carb issues"), re-assembly and riding!  Wink

If you can find the 7mm copper core wire in red, then you can make 'em! I found that Accel also has the wire in blue. I used the yellow obviously. set available on Amazon.com under $29. John Scmidt's instructions are posted in Shoptalk. Easy upgrade. And since Bike Bandit wanted close to $200 for a set of OEM...it was a "no-brainer" for me. Cool

Great info guys.

Can I just buy the bulk ACCEL cable?

Since Jegs sales this cable in bulk, 100 feet for $91.00 with free shipping
Accel 160090 - Accel SuperStock Plug Wires
http://www.jegs.com/i/Accel/110/160090/10002/-1?parentProductId=747765#moreDetails

I am assuming that total cable needed is less that 20 feet  total to replace the Valkyrie spark plug cables.
And since your reusing the old ends and boots I can build 5 complete sets for $18.20 ea.

I own 2 valkyries myself and a few friends I am just looking out for..

your thoughts?

Well that would work, sure. My overall length of original wires came in at about 138 inches.. so about 13 1/2 feet. I am planning to route the cables out from behind intakes 5 & 6 like John Schmidt did on his bike. This will eat up some additional footage but not much. My carbs are still off so wont know exact until re-install sometime next week probably. John shows a close-up picture in the Shoptalk piece. Nice clean install. Just need a couple of loom kits. John gave me the source info for them... I found them on Amazon for $5.95 Spectre Performance #4245 if i recall.

When I did mine some years ago, I bought Accel kit #3008.....7mm, stranded wire core, yellow. Same as your OEM wires except for color. It left me with enough extra to do the wiring on my GL1200 project bike and I still have some left over in case I ever need to replace a line on either bike.

thanks for the wire separator info. I got 4 sets coming from Amazon.

Amazon also has the ACCEL 160090 100' Yellow Copper Spooled Wire for $75.72 with Free shipping for Prime members.

so if I can get approx. 8 sets from 100', that comes out to less than $10 per set...

WOW....
Thanks guys..

Hey John. That GL1200 looks like an interesting project!
It gives me something to do when I can't leave the wife alone(caretaker mode). Adapted a Valk tank, Valk handlebars, Valk controls, and Valk grips. I was going to use Valk wheels but the rear didn't fit with the rotot attached....too wide and I didn't want to spend the $$ to reconfigure the swingarm.

John. FYI...While replacing the stainless steel dowels in the fuel rails  (redeye's kit) last night, it dawned on me that the old dowels may be perfect to re-use as spacers/standoffs to keep those aftermarket wire looms away from the carb linkage covers. I will try them out after I get everything re-assembled.
