Got the oem kit that states it fits a lot of honda models. Fiche breakout of left valk fork. All the how to vids show it being started into the housing by hand and driven with a fork seal. Spent 3 plus hrs trying get it in the housing. .05 inch diameter diff. Going to go to a dealer with fork housing get the seal and make sure it will start in.   Anyone have this problem?

No.

Maybe go to hondaline and enter in the part number and see what models it says it fits.

Also try a couple of different fiche and see what it requires, and if it matches the oem part # you have.

Also, what is that part #?

51490-MW0-003   This is the seal kit number. On a google search it goes to several Honda models. Either the seal is wrong in the kit or the Valk part search is wrong. All of the videos show a tight fit as it is put on the slider. Not this one. Cleared the tape around the bushing groove without any drag. It will slide down the tube by gravity alone. I don't think it will hold back any oil that way. Won't fit inside the outer housing. Inside diameter of the housing is 2.236 inches. Outside diameter of the seal (not flexible BTW) is 2.286. Seems to make a difference.

Claims to be the correct one. Whom did you buy it from? Like you think, maybe something wrong with the seal.

Bought from a dealer, take it back with the forks, and maybe try another kit. I've done a seal, but on an old CM250, and it was tight. Would hold back oil if it needed to.

Found an invoice from Direct Line, Inc. for some fork parts I purchased 08/04/11.

98 Tourer  Seal Set Item #  51490-MWO-003

Don't remember how they fit the tube,  33k miles since the seals install the tubes are dry.

Funny you should mention fork seals.  cooldude HAVE NOT got the numbers immediately at hand but I went with all balls seals AND there are a LOT of bikes listed that these seals will fit besides the Valkyrie. The dust seals walked out by themselves wet or dry. Dust seals are super glued in now. Hope you get yer issue sorted out. RIDE SAFE.

Went down to the dealer. They said it was the right number. Wanted to buy one and they didn't have any. They couldn't get it in either. The book (service manual) shows the spring side going towards the axle. The instructions say worded side toward axle. I am inclined towards what the picture in the book shows since the bevel edge of the seal with the wording looks like it will fit in the housing.   Question--should the seal be able to be started into the housing by hand?  I realize that I will have to use a seat tool to go the rest of the way.
Sorry to hear about the all balls brand not working--that was going to be the next direction.

For what it is worth. The seal in the kit had BR5639E written on it. A Google search showed it to be a 58X47X10 mm seal. My slider is 45 mm and the outer tube is 57 mm. On a site that sold fork seals for racing and under the Showa category, they listed 45X57X11 mm as a replacement.  All I say is check the bag and see if that seal number is right. Picking up a set of All Balls tonight because I want to ride and the dealers had no OEM in stock.
