I get the new 1800s are a great machine, I like the classic lines of the Old style Valks.

Butt dyno is off due to sentimental attachment........

I've ridden both.  The new Valkyrie is faster.  I know that's shocking since it's a bigger fuel injected engine but whatevs.....

I posted the #s that show that, never said it wasn't, just a lot more $$$ for not much more performance and dangerous stopping power for the extra speed. A tuned and modified Valkyrie with a good rider would easily make up 0.45 sec in 0-60mph.

The new Valkyrie's brakes blow the old Valkyrie's brakes away.

The new Valkyrie is faster than the old Valkyrie.

Dude nothing about the  Valkyrie is a HD wannabe.
And I also had an 1100 shadow and if yours kept up with any VTX it is because whoever was riding the VTX was a Chicken crap 2funny and yes I also had an 1800 VTX and it would outrun the Valkyrie .

Sure there is man..the older one...the tank, the fenders, the forks...all traditional Harley ques...The obvious diff is the engine....but it's cool...it's a timeless great look.

As far the VTX/Shadow...I'm speaking the Sabre man...NOT the classic/Ace or other Shadow dogs...with the single pin crank.the Sabre had better valve timing... My Sabre with the stage one kit did a solid 120mph and was still pulling hard...with ethanol free gas...  it also handled well...to with it's shorter wheelbase and moderate rake...

As far as the VTX out running the new Valk...cannot speak from experience but based on the specs...no way....less HP, more weight, and it in now way will handle anywhere as well...

I'll keep my eyes open for one...and have at it...I will get back to you!  lol Wink

Said nothing about outrunning the new stripped down wing I said the Valkyrie (1500) and rode a sabre a ton. The standard shadow didn't have a single pin crank but the ACE did.
And I want to see a picture of the HD you think the Valk is copying. If you say all of them then I guess and bike with a metal tank and fenders would fall under the same Description?

My 2 cents.

You wanna drive a 1958 Corvette, have at it.

Me I'll drive the 2015 Corvette.  Same difference just light years ahead.

IMO the best placement for the radiators is on the sides, you don't get all the hot air dumped on you.
I like the name GW Standard, me I just call it my Goldwing X-tra light. cooldude

yea, great progress, light yrs ahead, but not in the braking dept for the Goldwing Valkyrie which is 60-0mph 123.7'

Shortest 60–0 Stops
1] 2006 Triumph Speed Triple . . . . . . . . . . 104.8'
2] 2008 BMW Megamoto. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 106.4'
3] 1999 Triumph Speed Triple . . . . . . . . . . 106.7'
4] 1997 F6 Valkyrie. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 107.4'
5] 1997 Suzuki Marauder 800 . . . . . . . . . . 107.6'

new vette less than 100'   progress
I would think a newest latest designed 18k bike at 750lbs would have better braking 60-0mph 123.7' than even the '99 valkyrie tourer @ 776 lbs 60-0mph 114'
even the F6B at 102lbs more than the '14 valkyrie only needs 2 extra ft to stop and the 909lb GL1800 needs only 2 ft more than that at 127.4'. the 833lb I/S stopped in 116'.
I think that is unsafe engineering on honda's part to make the new valkyrie faster but cheap out on the brakes.
If I'm on a bike that runs 0-60 in under 4 sec, I need better brakes than honda provided for the '14 GW Valkyrie.
Owners/riders should be aware.

Great progress, for how much $$$$  light yrs ahead  crazy2
the #s don't lie
http://www.mcnews.com/mcn/article_index.asp
GW Valkyrie   0-60 mph  3.41 sec  0-100 mph  9.50 sec   11.65 1/4 mile  39.1avg mpg
'97 Valkyrie  0-60 mph   3.86 sec  0-100 mph   9.96 sec   12.02  1/4 mile 37.3 avg mpg

1. One site. If you look accept this CR knockoff sites #'s the new Valk is RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE... and they rated it 4 1/2 out of 5 (circles, whatever)... not exactly a stern warning.

2. Those numbers are not "dangerous"... and right or not, seem right within range for 60-0 braking.

Look at the numbers MSF was turning in... with your bike... you should sell it, seems dangerous.

http://www.msf-usa.org/downloads/imsc2006/Belmonte-Performance_Evaluations_of_Various_Braking_Systems-Paper.pdf

3. New Valk has dual-twin piston 310s in the front and a triple piston 316 in the back. Stops like a boss. Its brakes are bigger than yours.

Something more your "speed"

and brakes in like, 10 feet... so there's that

So went out in the Florida sauna today looking at huge dark cloud clumps thinking we might get a soaking but somehow darted around it for a great ride with two 1500 Valks and one full dress Harley. Met up with other riders at the watering hole and struck up the usual tire kicking chatter. Two gents were Wingers so the New Valk sitting there was a big part in of the conversation. We talked about Mother Honda naming the bike Valkyrie and if that was a good idea and other possible names that would fit. Don the Harley rider came up with Goldwing Sport. Humm  -  I kinda like it.  Let see who I can tick off today with that one.   tickedoff

Anyway it was an awesome ride and what goes through my mind when riding is how awesome this bike is.  I love this bike!!!!

Dude, the bike rocks period man...I took mine out today after the second oil change...man the way it behaves like one solid object..not a collection of parts...the way the tranny sounds..the motor..and power...front wheel almost came up today shifting into second...and not even getting into her  hard either...I'm tellin' ya..you guyz who are running gas with ethanol...don't know how much better she runs without it!
