I like the idea that I can do any minor fix roadside so I keep a full set of metric wrenches, 2 each of Philips and flathead screwdrivers (long and short ), needle nose and normal pliers, a, adjustable crescent wrench a simple set of Allen wenches, torx wrenches, tire gauge and a fuse kit. I also keep hardware for anything I replace (nuts and bolts for batteries and the like). I still need to pick up small container of dot4 break fluid and a quart of oil.
I also keep a small first aid kit, small bottle of sunscreen, couple of bottles of water if I'm going anywhere out of city limits and some crackers and hard candy.
I always find its best to hope for the best and expect the orst.
That all sounds like great stuff to have, but where do you put it all? I have a small roll of tools that has the useful stuff out of a pouch and a few useful add-ons, a multi-tool, big adjustable wrench, ball-pein hammer, electrical tape, and lots of zip-ties. If all that fails I have my CAA card. lol. That nearly fills one of my beetle bags, and rain gear nearly fills the other. I'd like to add a first aid kit and a few other small things but then I would have no space for anything.
Jess: The headlamp is a great idea, I have a flashlight but I will be adding a headlamp.
