My wife applied for a job, interviewed for a job...then waited.
She had everything that they wanted in an applicant according to the job description.
She felt good about the job.
They called yesterday and wanted her to call back...she thought that sounded promising.
Turns out...they wanted to hire her, but when the interviewers/managers submitted her paperwork to HR they turned her down. The position had a requirement that was not in the job description.
My wife does in fact have the requirement fulfilled but she didn't mention it in the application, cover letter, or resume because she was trying to ensure that she discussed what they mentioned in the job description.
So...crap.
Why can't they just put down what they want? It's online...they're not saving paper!

I have the opposite problem.
Why do people send resumes that do not have any of the skills that are listed as minimum skills? Undecided
And why do people apply for jobs that will not accept the pay that is clearly shown on the ad? Undecided

She needs to re-apply and get "eye to eye ball" with the HR.  Wink

Sounds fishy, like an unfair hiring practice.  Perhaps she should contact the wage and labor board or OEO.

Sounds like nepotism.

Someone knew someone that had a son or a daughter that had a more important qualification. "A Connection"

re apply

HR people are known to be impressed by small shiney objects so they most likely wont recognize her name the second time.

all kidding about secretary auditions aside I would rather have an honest employee who is willing to learn and is polite and doesnt yell back at my clients than any of the gals posted by my friends on this board. Ok if I had the money I would hire all of em but I dont.

My secretary is a nice single mom originally from French Guyana. That means she actually can understand Strider, assuming he ever calls here. She could sort of type when I hired her but has gotten better. She is not the brightest light in the sky but she is at least lit.

I gave her a script to say when the phone rings.  Sort of like Dell does........

She aced it and was hired.  My clients all love her cause she is nice to them especially when they are upset because they dont understand some aspect of what is happening with their case, and I always call clients back after she speaks with them if they ask for me

Let your wife show up at HR with her true qualifications and see about that job.  If she wishes to file a discrimination charge she should first find out who and what they hired. Your state's attorney general office could also help you by sending a red herring to apply.

Good luck to everyone looking for work  It is tough out there and not getting better.

Thanks for letting me vent.
My wife is fortunate. She has a job, even if she wants out, and we are getting by.
We are lucky. It is good to keep in mind.

Actually, my hearse needs gas, but we do ride in it from time to time and it never fails to brighten our day.
