FIXED

Guys I need some technical advice.  I wasn't able to ride for a few weeks, I went to start my IS and nothing, the headlights went out and the pod lights shone brightly with no dimming, but no rumbling of awesome power.  I assumed the battery was weak even thought the pods didn't dim so I plugged in the battery tender and jumped on the standard instead.  I let 'er charge for 24 hours and tried to start 'er again with the same result.
I checked the battery before hitting the start switch and she had about 13.7 volts, with key on and the start switch depressed she dropped to 11.6 volts.  I know normally a weak battery will end up spinning the starter but not starting the motor.  I got no clicks, no whirrs, nothing!

Since electrical issues are my nemesis I'm asking for suggestions, what should I check next?

TYIA!

I went to check the kill switch, kickstand, neutral, etc, verified all were correct and hit the starter switch again.  There was a loud click from under the right cover and now nothing, no headlights, no warning lights, nothing.  I assume I blew a fuse.....   Sad

Turns out I had a loose connection,  Roll Eyes a little cleaning and tightening and all is well.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes, the one on the battery, it felt tight at first wiggle but when I went back to check again the bolt spun loose by hand.

I have had this happen on my Valk and my 07 Wing.  A loud POP, then nothing......  pulled the cables off, wire brushed them clean, a little dielectric (sp?) grease, put them back on snug and it fires right up...

Glad it wasn't more serious.

Reminds me of one of the valkyries I bought for a friend. He and I travelled 400 miles to get it. I had spoken to the seller on numerous occasions about the condition of the bike. It was very much as represented when we got there, but wouldn't start. I could tell he was as frustrated as me. Ultimately we jump started it and it ran like a freaking racehorse! But I got him to come down a couple of hundred bucks because I didn't know what I was looking at in repairs. I was thinking alternator or battery or both. Trailered the bike home. When I went to work on it I had bought a new battery to give that a try. I didn't even get the old one out. Went to take off the ground wire and it was loose as a goose. I tightened it up and it started right up. That was 2 years ago and my friend is still riding on the same battery.
