I'm hearing a whirring chatter noise coming from the rear of my 2002 Valkyrie standard when I apply the rear brake. I removed the rear brake caliber for inspection and the pads are fine with plenty of material left. It only makes this noise when the rear brake is applied. Anyone experience a similiar problem..?

I forgot to mention that the bike has a little over 21K miles.

Wheel bearing after only 21,000?   I suppose it could happen but not too likely.  I hear whirring noise when my rear brake is applied – it's the sound of the pads on the rotor (my brake pads are good too).

I would check what BF & Bighead said and also something MITCHO taught me make sure the slider pins  are lubed and also that your rear brake pedal is not hanging up.

Trout Dude, when I had the rear caliber off I lubed the slider pins.
I believe they are OEM pads because I had planed to change them out and ordered a set of Honda brand. The current pads look identicle to the OEM pads from what I could tell. Interesting that Tfrank59 hears same sound on his bike; does anyone else notice this noise when applying their rear brakes..? I guess it could be a wheel bearing but I'm only hearing it when applying the brake.

I think all you are hearing is the pads rubbing the rotors.

This may be true...  I've owned several bikes with rear disk brakes, just never heard this sound so pronounced.

I'm too lazy to do a search, but during my many years of reading this board, I know that weird noises when the rear brake is applied HAS been found to be caused by a bad wheel bearing.

The rear brake caliper has a pad spring that applies tension to the pads. Might make sure its still good and in place correctly. Also there are two rubber boots that if missing or wore through might cause a chatter. If this is a new noise might just change pads and see. Make sure everything back there is still tight and not falling off. Don't know, .0136 cents worth. Let us know  Firefighter
