Started out surveying for the state of Georgia. Mapped some of all the interstates in GA. All of I-185, from LaGrange to Columbus, most of I-95 in SE GA. Lots of other projects. For those that know spagheti junction, I mapped it. Got tired of the dope heads that worked with me, would have easily failed drug tests today. Worked at Panola Mt. State Park, GA. Ideal gig. Free room & board. Lots of visitors on the weekend and I was Yogi the Bear. Everyone would share there grilled creations with me.
Left and went to Bible College for a semester and ended up getting married, graduated, etc. Opened a bicycle shop in 83 since we were expecting and didn't want to leave the area. Loved it. Got Westgate Park BMX track built which is still up and running 25 years later. Started Southern States Freestyle Associaltion. Did lots of events all over the Southeast. Met lots of kids. Staged/promoted lots of 10 speed races, tours, fund raisers, was an USCF official, was assistant to the Race Director for the Tour de Trump in 89. Put on a couple top amature races in Dothan area. blah, blah, blah,... Economy turned south, kids bought video games and quit riding bikes in 1988. That was my most fav gig and would still be in it today, but.
Went back to swinging a hammer, which I had done part time with my dad over the years. Learned a thing or two from him and another fellow I worked for.
Do everything from changing out the flapper in your toilet to custom homes.
I do very little complete home building because of gov't regulations. Have to have a homebuilders license, and sorry, they already have more control over me than I care to share. Most don't even build anything anyway, they sub it out and man o' man, some of the crapola I see.
I also sell and service water conditioners/filtartion systems, get the lead, chlorine, and other toxins and poisins out.

Other non occupational interests, Vol Firefighter 21 years, Captain 15 years, instructor 15 years,
Fund Raiser for different charities.
Stormrider - (always there after the storm) disaster relief, damage assesment for years, recovery and cleanup, chainsaw training, getting nominated this evening for disaster relief coordinator for the Henry County/Judson Baptist Association.
Love to ride the Valk.

Currently a delegate from Alabama to the Southern National Congress which will be meeting this weekend at Cheaha State Park. www.southernnationalcongress.org   I'm bringing the groceries for 125.

Chainsaw training, April 09

The homeowner escated injury by hiding in the tub. This was the aftermath of the 07 tornado that hit Enterprise, AL among several other communities. Chris and I helped cleanup in several areas.

Here's a couple projects. I do a lot of the work on these and usually have one or two helpers.
I built this one from the ground up.

Inside at the landing for the stairway. Custom trim with 39 cutouts representing the 39 arches in and outside this house.

After college I traveled the world singing professionally.  Took 4.5 years to get tired of being away from my family that much and I stopped traveling full time(240 concerts per year).  It was a great experience and got to see so much and meet so many people.  Now I teach 6th grade Math and tour about 25 weekends a year (75 concerts) around the southeast.  Life is good!

Didn't you come to one of Britman's Memorial Day rides a couple of years ago?.....I think you were with two other guys and rode in my group with Big Don leading....one of your friends had an accident and rode off the side of the mountain on a borrowed Harley that the other man had loaned him for that weekend?.......I was tailgunning that day and was relieved that your friend didn't hurt himself too badly....my memory isn't as sharp as it once was....I just thought I recognized you from that ride...

Well, back in 1982, the economy in Houston was worse than it is now and the oil patch had all but dried up.  I worked for my step-dad in his machine shop for about 4 years.  Near the end, we (4 sons) painted the house, cut down trees, etc.. until I got laid off.  I had some friends of mine that worked for this grocery wholesale warehouse and they needed a courier.  I applied looking like Dusty Hill and they still hired me.

I was the courier for about 3 years while going to night school (Computer Science).  I took a job in the print room in the then IBM department...  Smiley  After a couple of years of printing, I was offered the job of supervisor on day shift.  Supervising the same people that I had worked with for the past couple of years.  I showed some initiative and wasn't scared to try new things.  I was really good at hiding the ones that didn't work so good...  Smiley

Today, I am a supervisor in the retail services department.  I have been with the company for 26 years, most of them have been good.  I do most things for the company that no one else will do.  NO, not cleaning toilets..  Smiley

I am in charge of our Nortel Meridian Phone systems (3 of them), in charge of all price change tags, price list distribution, liason between our customers and the programming staff, and put together videos and slide shows for company outings, including the annual awards breakfast...  There are so many things I do that I can't remember them all in just a few minutes while writing this post.

Mostly I am just an honest Texas country boy that has moved into the city and haven't forgotten my roots in the country.  Since many of our customers are in small towns in Texas, I can relate to their problems and talk them through most of them over the phone.  I guess they are just comfortable talking to me, because I can relate.

5 years ago my brother Scott found out he had Hodgkins Lymphoma (sp?) and went through all of the treatments.  He is cancer free so far and doing quite well.  3 years ago, just after his recovery, he told me he was selling the Valk, that he just wasn't strong enough to ride the old girl.  I jumped at the chance, so I bought it and it will remain in the family forever......

Me (right) and my brother at HotGlue's GOTF.

The Valk w/trailer, wife in background...  Smiley

There, now it's Valk related!

I am a bug man! I am a region manager for the worlds best pest control company. Been in the business for 17 years. Travel regularly through Kansas, Missouri, Texas and Louisiana. Travel is a pain but we have the greatest customers and employees which makes it all bearable. Not sure what I would do if asked to leave. I was killing bugs when my kids were born and this year my oldest is graduating high school. Currently living and working out of the Kansas City area but am a native of St. Louis. Go Cards!!

Just 26 years to retirement! Is it too early to start the months, days, hours countdown?

Retired from Veteran's Administration.
So much of what members of the forum are saying regarding care of our veterans resemble the stupid soundbites of the crazy right wing fringes-and not the truth.

2 step....that's a very honorable profession. When I see that image I can only think of my Grandfather and other members of my family who lived in PA and worked the coal mines.

And my family worked in the coal mines of eastern Kentucky.  I still remember playing with my grandfathers carbide light that attached to his hard hat.

I'm a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist and work at the VA Medical Center in Nashville Tennessee. I'm part of a great team of people who have the privilege of serving our Veterans. It is a blessing to have such a great job.

Did this for 34 years, retired with a fat pension.  Turned out not so fat, so I'm grudgingly trying for another one for a few more years, working fo a university police department.  Smiley hoser

I have worked as a maintenance technician(electrical, mechanical, controls, and everything in between) for a manufacturing plant in W'ford, Ok since I graduated from college in 1992.  When I started here it was owned by 3M.  It was then spun off as Imation, sold to Kodak Polychrome Graphics, and then bought out by Eastman Kodak.  I've worked for 4 different companies out of the same building over a 17 year period. Cheesy

I also  help out on our family owned/operated farm and ranch(see the grey ghost's posting).

Oh, and of course I try to keep things running smoothly at: http://www.valkyrieriders.com/
