What does the data say?

Corinth, Texas

« on: August 02, 2015, 06:20:54 PM »

Continuing the discussion from the last meeting and then tearing a page from the GW forums,  let's start throwing out Ride To Eat destinations.

Maybe it will  help planning rides and meetings.

So, some ideas (mainly up my way because that's what I know):

Ranchman's Steakhouse in Ponder

Bebo's between Aubrey and Pilot Point

Pedro's in either Aubrey or Pilot Point

Greenwood Grocery

Soulman's BBQ over Rockwall way.

Hacienda Ranch either at Frankford & I35E or west of the airport on 114

Whattaya got?

Bebo's (in Aubrey) has pie, but the catfish, shrimp, burgers, and chicken fried steak are the draw.  Unless you actually like and have a hard time finding liver and onions.  They even have fried baloney sandwiches.

Sweetie Pie's in Decatur has fried apricot pies.  Yummo!  A nice dessert after a Greenwood burger.

Speaking of catfish, I wonder if Baron can string together a plan to ride to McGehee's in Marietta, OK?  Baron, are you out there???   coolsmiley   Maybe some of our Oklahoma friends could meet us there.

Woody's Smokehouse in Centerville is a natural "meet in the middle" location.  Perfect for when John in Tyler and 5_19 in Dublin meet up.   Cheesy   Also works well for the DFW & Greater Houston folks.

We haven't tried a DFW / Centex meetup.  Waco?  BBQ?  Health Camp?

Hard 8 in Stephenville?

The last few reports I heard about the Koffee Kup in Hico were not good, but 51 from Granbury to 67 is worth the trip and there are options in Granbury.

We could also make a Nacogdoches run.  Haven't done that since '09.

It's been a long time since we went to the Shed in Edom, too.

Also you could add Loose Wheels in Denison & Feed Sack in Windom to the list.

So if some one would like to put up a poll  4 or 5 of the places on the list, to see what location we want to hit this month, I would appreciate it.

also do we want to do this coming weekend, Aug 8, or next weekend, Aug 15?

Speaking of meetings. The club used to met a Papa's BBQ years ago, on NW Hwy and I35. I always enjoyed it there. The is plenty of parking, lots of seating, and great bbq.
We might want to go there again!
Just a thought~

Yeah, I am here but I have been tied up with some major family problems.  As soon as things settle down, I will look into a catfish ride.

Another good place is the Smokehouse in Gainsville on US82.

Wildcatter Ranch in Graham.

Ballard Street Cafe in Wylie.

Mom's Cafe in Justin.

Fried Pie Company in Gainesville.

Stockyards, Risky's or Cooper's.

Stackhouse Burger in Dallas.

Palo Pinto Cafe if it is still open.

I go for chicken fried steak.

Clarks in Tioga.  Homemade pie also.
Lonesome Spur in Justin.  The place is huge.  An old feed store renovated.

These are a couple that haven't been mentioned yet.

Great place but probably a fall destination.  Routing to there will be a challenge, avoiding I-20.  Drove by there on Monday on the way back from Albuquerque.

My last visit to Hico was good.  No problems I can find at the Koffee Kup.

Vaughn's Catfish on Lake Bob Sandlin was a great destination.

The last couple of times I've ridden past there, it's been closed.  The last time, in May, it looked shuttered.

Bummer about Palo Pinto Cafe.

I also heard about another place called Loco Coyote in Glen Rose.

I'll get back to you with some others, but here's one that immediately comes to mind as I look through the list

Shinola's in Springtown. It's too good to miss.

Lone Star Bar and Grill in Amarillo near Palo Pinto Canyon.

These places are good destinations for an early morning start with a late night return, or an overnight trip. Sound like a fall/spring destination.

Rode to Loose Wheels in Denison with the Southern Cruisers a few weeks ago.  When we got there for lunch on Sunday we were given a "busy day" menu.  One half of a page with four options on it.  Nothing fried or grilled on a "busy day".  You could have chopped BBQ or chicken salad.  A few chips on the side was an extra $2.00.  So if you go on a "busy day" don't plan on having access to the entire menu and don't plan on getting out of there short of a $20 for lunch if you get a soft drink and a small tip.  Just my humble experience.

I know!   Smiley   That's why I went to find the link to an article I browsed in the September D Magazine and found two.  Weekend lunch or dinner, anyone???  Of course, these would be urban rides, and I'm not sure how many of them serve pie, but sometimes we all have to compromise.

Here are the whys: Why Dallas is the burger capital of the world

And, here are the whats and wheres: The best burgers in Dallas

Something you should keep in mind when reading D Magazine regarding ANY of their "best of.." articles.

They only review those who advertise with them!!

That doesn't mean their selections aren't good...  just biased.  coolsmiley

Completely understood, Tom.  I've never subscribed to that glossy, but fluffy rag, and hardly ever even peruse it.  I guess I just don't care enough about which wannabes showed up at whose glittery, but stupid party or trunk show.   uglystupid2

However, when I saw the cover, and it was about burgers (regardless how biased or pre-filtered the list might be), I threw it out there as possible source material.  It's purely a selfless act of benevolence in the spirit of RTE/ETR.
