has anyone done this....
first time at gas pump, filled her up while being cool because people looking at such a beautiful bike. turned the key to on and went to start it!! nothing....dead....what the hell is this, all while trying to act like i know what i am doing...... sat there for a FULL 5 minutes thinking this peice of %$##%$@# bike and my thoughts went on and on and still dead, nothing ..... wondering who is looking at me... then i seen it!! the key was turned to acc. WOW what a dumb ass.

how bout this.... looking for the gas shut off valve so i could make sure it was not turned to reserve...... after a few moments thinking where the hell can it be and what the hell kind of dam bike did i get..... wow there it is a gas gauge.

new and improved!!!
i'm loving my new valkyrie !!!!
see you guys on the road, i'll be the one reading the owners manual on how things work.

I've never done it but I'm still unsure why that's even there.  Seems stupid on a bike.  If you want ACC just turn it to ON and don't start it. Only thing ACC does is not prime the fuel pump but if you use the kill switch it's the same thing.

Fuel injected motorcycles do not have a reserve for the fuel, instead a low fuel indicator light

1)  You can't have a reserve position-capable petcock on a fuel injected bike.  FI needs a high pressure fuel feed plus a fuel return, two things a petcock simply can't deal  with.

2) The ACC setting is there because it's a Gold Wing.  On Wings the ACC lets the stereo work with the engine off, so the carry-over ignition switch part maintains the same action.  I intend to use my ACC line to activate a relay in a aux fuse box, giving me high current ignition switched control of farkles like heated grips, the power lines for my heated vest and other goodies.

Don't feel bad Rusty.  I did the same thing starting my bike.  I put it to Acc instead of ON.  Although, I was at home, and no one saw me.   Cheesy

Or reach up to adjust your mirror wider for the freeway, and hit the kill switch by accident.  Then knock it back on quickly, and backfire so loudly your fellow motorists think you are shooting at them (and they begin evasive maneuvers).   crazy2

Jess, too funny! I remember when I was in high school we would do that on purpose and laugh our asses off watching peoples reaction.  2funny Wasn't the best thing for our vehicles, but damn was it funny! Probably wouldn't be a smart thing to do today. You might see who has conceal carry! tickedoff

2funny 2funny Grin yup one time mine did not start and sure enough accessory position was the fault. The dealer was trying to start a bike and the same thing happened to him that is what clued me into the accessory position. .
