looking into getting a corbin, playing around with colors and i'm thinking of doing black natural seats, royal blue vinyl for sides, stud band and welt, light blue stitching and a black logo. the thought is that the blue will "join" the back fender and the tank. has anyone else done something like this yet? will the royal blue look right with the blue of my bike?

How about all black with blue stitching?  I doubt the blue sides will match the bike.  Many Honda 700s riders tried to match the red or blue and it did not match.  Or maybe they can send you a piece to compare?   Get the flame stitching in blue. Ooooo  cooldude

I bought an Interstate with a custom leather stitched, studded, silver conchoed, and COLORED Corbin dual tour with backrest. (powder blue, presumably to match the blue dragons airbrushed onto the bags, see my Avatar)

Although it looked beautiful, since it was in actuality a concrete block covered in leather, it had to go.  The COLOR made it nearly worthless in the resale market.  It was new and perfect and the receipt showed it cost over $1200.  After four months of trying, I was able to get $350 for it.  And that was the ONLY offer I got for it.

Do what you want.

At least there are blue 1800s, think of how may 1500 Valks looked good with a powder blue accented seat.

As a result, I wouldn't even let Dez at Ultimate put his standard small silver V on my new Ultimates; I had him do it in black, which made it nonreturnable (not that I needed to).

I ordered a Tan solo for my VTX 1800c and wanted to get orange stitching to match the paint and the salesman talked my out of doing it. He said it will look good for about 6 months then the thread will fade and start looking bad. He said we will do it but if it were him he wouldn't order it. The tan stitching also faded some but the light color of the seat it didn't look bad.

I agree with not doing the sides in blue, just because the color wont match the bike perfectly. Think it would look really nice doing the blue stitching though, and could also add a blue welt too if wanted more color but not too much.

I'm a big fan of the carbon fiber on the sides to add a nice contrast that doesn't have to color match.

Ok I called corbin and they are sending me samples of all the different blue colors.

As for resale, I don't care. This is my bike and I'll have it untill one of us goes to our final resting place. Of the 4 other bikes I have owned and the dozens I have borrowed for a weekend I haven't felt this level of being in sync with the bike ever. The few things like the seat and the overly tall windshield can be delt with.

I just switched over to a Corbin seat. My Valk is black. I went with the black vinyl with medium blue stitching- no colors on the sides. The seat looks great, but it is not as comfortable as I thought it would be. It seems like Corbin did not put enough  foam or what ever they use in the seat. It is a little hard. For over $700, I thought it would be a better ride.

I don't think Corbin uses foam.   I'm pretty sure they use Portland.

I believe there is a break-in period. It either breaks your wallet and/or breaks your ***! Cheesy

For those considering a Corbin seat, keep in mind that you can ask them not to instal their name tag on your seat, if you decide it's something you don't want/like.

Concrete hardens for 80 years.  Somewhere along the way it gets so hard it becomes brittle.

I bought a Corbin for one bike, I rode for five years.  It never broke in one iota.  This was how I discovered Airhawk seat cushions.  Grin

It sure looked good though.  (To be fair, it was OK for about two hours)

Are Corbin seats firm? yes.
That being said I loved mine, I found I could ride on the firm seat much longer than a soft one. On a soft seat after a while you start feeling the seat pan. A firm seat just means more support. First few times you ride on one probably won't be comfortable ride it a while and you will like it.

The other problem with the colored panels is that they fade and make the seat look old prematurely. With the blue panels, you'll actually highlight the seat rather than have it blend into the overall look.

I went black all the way around with a black welt and I think it looks great. Even had the Corbin logo done in black. This way, the seat doesn't draw your eye away from the bike's look, which I happen to like and have since I saw the first pics. Traded from a Triumph Rocket 3 so I like a bike that's big up front. Very happy with the comfort as well. Night and day better than the stock seat. I ride with zero butt fatigue now.

Bighead:  I do not mind a firm seat either, but this seat feels like it has a lump right up front toward my... well you know what I mean.  Hopefully as it breaks in, the ride will improve.  But is sure does look nice.

To much color on a seat will make the seat compete with the bike for your attention. John Schmidts bike is a good example of this. His was done really well though because the color compliments the bike and the look is awesome. But choose the wrong color or to much and you will take away from the bike and all attention will be on the seat and not necessarily in a good way. Blue side panels could be cool in the right blue, I almost went for the Maroon side panels for mine but didn't like the color. I instead went for the welt in maroon and a different textured black on the sides and it was enough. I also went for the black logo and I like it, just enough accent. I was also thinking about white stitching kind of like the baseball interiors on cars but decided it might be to much. If you want something different and dont want color then try playing with textures, it can add the contrast without color.

As I have mentioned in previous threads. I put a Corbin on my bike. Hard as a rock. Sent it back and they built me a new one with more padding. I complained it was also not wide enough. After about 4 months I got it back. They corrected the problem with the side panels removal, softened the seat and does feel wider. Also seemed lower when sitting on it. Was way more comfortable than before and better than factory. I can now at least ride for an hr or more before needing to stretch my legs. Not anywhere near as good as a Russell seat. I plan to order the back rest. Could possible help me more on the longer rides.

Samples came today, unfortunately the bike needs a washing and I want to compare them in the sun but we have some bad wind storms right now. As soon as the weather clears up ill post a pic of the samples on the tank in the sun.
