I need to rebuild/build my pipes. So I am lookinmg at either gutting and modding my present one or starting a new one.

However, I will need to look at silencers. Hotdog seems the most suitable for size, popular and very reasonable price. But just as I was comfortable with the idea that the louvred type was better, because you could reverse them to get better flow or less noise, I started seeing claims that the non-reversible, non-louvred but simply perforated, ones were actually quieter, with better flow than the louvred ones, apparently in either direction.

I have seen some other types mentioned, but they do not seem to be easily available here.

So. Anyone had any experience with the two types and hoe effective they are?

Thanks for any help

The Rex Marine 4" silencer is light weight and very effective.

You want the "Rex Stainless Insert Silencers"

For a finishing touch, as well as an additional lower noise level, you might want to finish them off with a set of Grumpys tips.

The large bore are quite effective at reducing noise level....but the small bore are even more effective.

Thanks for that, but two problems. Rex marine are "Out of stock" on all their own stuff (??) and they are not that cheap, especially given they will only add freight at invoice time. I live in Australia. Freight will be killer $$ to here, especially if Rex insist on using UPS.

There are other sources for them...however I don't know them off the top of my head.  Do a Google search for them.  And yes, they're not cheap.....but they're a nice light weight product.  I have them in my exhaust that had the Ragnar Cut done to it.  Then I added the large bore Grumpy tips to finish it off....plus the Grumpy's added more noise reduction.  The small bore would add even more.

Check with MarkT.  He's a site sponsor...you can find him listed at the top of the page...or at.....

http://horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Valk_Products/M2W_Exhaust__System/m2w_exhaust__system.html

He sells silencers that are OEM...he cuts them out of exhausts that he salvages.  Don't remember what they cost, but I think somewhere between 20 to 40 bucks a set.....maybe not even that much, but I don't know for sure.  A simple bolt in application.

Scroll down about a 3rd of the way down on his site page and you'll see them.

Oldnick, did you end up getting your resonators mate? What product did you go with?

I've bought a second hand stock exhaust system that I am about to modify to glass packs. OS I'm interested to know which way you went.

Good news too, Grumpy is still making his tips and he's happy to send them to us here in Oz.

HAH! What I did to get regoed was to pack stanless wool into the drilled stock pipes to geg the note down to pass.

I have stocked stainless tube, fxings and preforated tube to build my own system. Say no more. It will work or not.

Not much help to you. Sad
