Is my petcock cover set leaking / bad? (fixed )

I had the tank off to do an air filter. Since I was in there, and had never tested the diaphragm. Here's what I did. I put a hose on the vacuum nipple on the petcock. Sucked on it, and had no vacuum. The air was coming in the small bottom drain or vent on the peacock. When I held this vent closed with my finger, I could suck a bit of vacuum, but sucked a biit of fuel into the line. Positive pressure on the line was better, but I think it was bleeding off, not out the vent.
The bike has been running fine. But I think this cover set has got to be bad, even at 26K. Amazing the bike ran with this vacume leak. Or was it sucking fuel into #6. Do you agree?
All fixed
It was pretty bad, 1/4 inch of the diaphragm rubber was gone and it was still working. This was the original, with 26k on it. If you haven't checked yours, do it. I think I only had a few miles before this would have left me stuck on the side of the road. The bike for sometime has had a low speed miss and popping on decal. It all gone.

Yeah, you've been lucky. Need a cover set, before any more riding. Now that you know things are bad, the luck won't hold......Just sayin'

Yes, if it won't hold a vacuum, replace the cover set. Just replaced my cover set a couple days ago. Could have been stranded away from home. Evidently, it was able to draw enough vacuum to get gas to the carbs, but was running crappy because of the vac leak. Had quite a tear in the center of the diaphragm. Runs good now.
