I hit something making a left turn in the dark this morning.  Road over it with the front tire and it got tangled up in rear tire somehow and took me down.  I was on a feeder to a major freeway and could not go back and retrieve what ever it was.  '

Thank god for riding gear as I am ok.  Not riding Harley style.  Just bruised and a little road rash on one leg.  When I got the bike to the side of the road, I pulled out a flashlight and had a once over.  The only damage I could find was the crash bar.  I expected the radiator cover to be damaged but was not.  Had the bike towed for inspection and repair of anything that needs attention.  Helmet has evidence of a strike but I do not remember hitting my head.  In fact, its hard to remember what happened after I went down it all happened so fast.  Was only going about 25 mph as I was coming out of a 90 degree turn.  Girl friend wants me to stop riding.  Told her she would have to marry me to have that kind of power.  Hope I did not put my foot in my mouth on that one.

Wear your gear.  Only 1 mile from home.

Wow! Good to hear you are OK! You probably will discover some other places (bruising) that hurt in a couple of days.  I've crashed 3 times, once at 90mph and I still ride. Riding is a personal choice (freedom) and a lifestyle!  I enjoy it immensely! Smiley Ride on!  cooldude

Maybe you can go back and check out what you hit? Take it out of the road so nobody else has your experience.

I'm sure all of us will sign an affidavit that you were not of sound mind when you made that statement.
Obviously you were in a motorcycle accident and was struck in the head rendering you quite insane at the time.

Good to see that you walked away from the accident.

Not sure what you are walking into! Cheesy

I always told my girlfriends I will NOT quit riding end of discussion, move on or move out. Lost a couple this way. Also ended up with my wife this way. Grin Now she's a rider too.

Wow, that TOTALLY blows! Shocked

Accidents ALWAYS happen when you cannot see them coming..and their many times near home...I'm especially aware of this when I 'go round the block'..

Either way...I constantly think of the dangers...(like deep sixin' those crappy stock tires) but I know that it's not enough...ever...

crap happens...and you can minimize when it does happen to some degree, but in the end..crap HAPPENS....

haha, don't worry about the girl friend.  Not going there but  I hope she does not read the forums.

Just checked my riding jacket a REV IT GTR.  Lots of road grime at the shoulders and elbows where there is armor.  No pain where the armor is.  Guess kind of obvious. The face shield is all scratched up.  The helmet (J Cruise) did not take a hit.

I pick up a piece of rubber about 2 feet long by about 2 inches thick by the rear tire immediately after the accident.  Thought it was part of the bike at the time.  The dealer said no and I think it was what dropped me.  Got in my rear tire I think because it locked up.

Told the dealer to make the bike new.  These bikes Know how to fall.  The only real damage was the crash bars.  The Honda bags saved the rear end.  No body damage at all.  Does not seem possible.  At any rate, I..........

CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK ON MY BIKE.

Glad to hear you made it through relatively unscathed. It's also good to hear the bike survived in good shape. The Honda engineers knew what they were doing with proper crash guard placement---both front and rear.

some of the best advice ever. Wear your gear.

stats show that most accidents happen within a short radius from home. Same thing happened to me at the beginning of the season when i hit gravel. If i had not worn my gear i would be recovering from knee surgery for sure.

glad to hear you weren't badly hurt. After all is said and done, are all other parts of the bike ok?

Ya, the bike did well.  Crash bar did it's job absorbing the energy and protecting the engine.  No cosmetic damage.   So a new crash bar, kickstand switch and the pan under the header/cats and the worst part was replacing the leather bags.  Could not buy just one but that bag protected the rear of the bike so probably a wash in price.  The techs found nothing else.

I spent more money this week upgrading my riding gear.  I was wearing a pair of summer riding boots that were a compromise between protection for comfort.  Those are gone.  Added a back protector to my jacket and found some riding jeans infused with kevlar and some light knee pads.
