Hey guys, today I decided to clean my air filter its a K&N. When I took the cover off it has a foam piece on top of the filter that is labeled K&N foam filter. The foam filter is deteriorated and very fine particals are coming off of it. My question is do I need it, I called advance auto to see if I could buy just the foam piece and he said no it comes with the filter. He then said that the K&N filters are so good I don't even need it. Do you guys agree with him or should I try and find a piece of the same type of foam and cut it to the shape I need. Only had bike 6 months and p/o gave me cleaning kit. All responses will be appreciated.   Wink

Had my bike 13 yrs. with a K&N the full time, but never a foam filter. Clean it up and don't worry about it.

:cooldude:Thanks John, that's what I needed to know. Looking at your bike I can see you know your shtuff. My other bike has K&N filter(no foam) and when I looked at K&N filters the one for the Valkyrie was the only one that used the foam, didn't know if it was because of the 6 carbs and needed the additional filter. Thanks again, hope to meet you at the Plant City lunch.

Are you talking about the Oct. 4th RTE?  I'm planning on it, have to see how my honey is feeling before I can go anywhere for any length of time. I'll explain in person.

Call K&N directly.  I bet they will send you just the foam piece on top for free or pay for shipping is all a few bucks, no biggie.

Directions say to use the foam piece on top, so I do, but only been on 13K miles so far and haven't looked at it.  guessing will need cleaning after 20-30K miles depending on how and where you ride.

I know my OEM Honda air cleaner when replaced at 18K was in there from previous owner for about 8 years needed replacing pretty darn badly so should look at mine before 20K miles as well on it to clean it up.
