I am just now getting around to installing a Cobra light bar that I bought from one of the gang about a year ago. I am installing a Kuryakan 3 toggle switch that fits in place of the brake fluid reservoir cap. Each of the items it toggles is rated for 10 amps, one is going to the Dan-Marc fuel shut off and the other to the Cobra Light bar head lights only. My question is what is the amp rating on the light bar and if it exceeds what I can do here, can I change the bulb to LED to lower the amp requirements.

Why put a switch on DanMarc?

I would switch it with the ignition.

I don't know the answer to your question though.

Not sure on the wattage of the Cobra spots, but I'm pretty sure that each one is not more than 50W. Taking into consideration that a 50W halogen takes uses about 4.1 Amps, 2 of them will be around 8 Amps. So you should be good with a 10A switch. However to be on the safe side, I would recommend putting the 12V on a relay and use the switch on the ground.

Do you know the Watt rating of the bulbs in the lamps? If so, add them up and divide by 12.6V for a close approximation. For example, if there are two, 55W bulbs, that is 110/12.6, or a bit less than 9A; add about 10% for normal operating voltage, and you get nearly 10A. You could use the switch to turn a relay on, which are often rated 20-30A, for a better margin.

You can replace most bulbs with high-brightness LEDs, but they likely won't be as bright. For example, the brightest LEDs I could find for my lights are 30W equivalent, so though a lot whiter, they are noticeably dimmer than the 55W bulbs they replaced. I kept them in, figuring they are more for being seen that brightening the road.

I think idea of using the second switch as a fuel shutoff is interesting, function and theft protection. However, IMO you should use the other switch as the trigger for the light bar relay and protect the rest of your bikes circuitry as others have indicated.
