Over a month ago my I/S was running poorly. Fighting to get it going from a complete stop. Idle was very inconsistent, most times it wouldn't throttle down between shifts. From reading on this board for many years, I was convinced I had a vacuum leak. The vac lines had never been replaced, and now in it's 16th season. Tore into it to find the vac lines looked like new. Not brittle, soft, no holes or splits. Replaced them anyway since I had pulled them out and like I said, 16th season. Bought a Digi Sync and figured this was the best time to try it out. Pods and plug valances off so made getting behind the runners as easy as it would ever get. Went to pull a vacuum on the petcock to get started and it wouldn't hold. So now to order a cover set. At this point the bike has been down for 16 days waiting to get what I really needed from a red eyed vendor. Never got what I really needed. Oh well, maybe next year as it took me half a day to get the damn air box seated and I ain't looking forwards to doing that again! Okay, petcock repaired and tank back on. Sync the carbs. A couple was off maybe 5 numbers, the others 2. Now all spot on, a few moving 1 number, idle set at 900. Go for a ride and I have a ping. Ping, WTH? Put half a can of B-12 in and fill up. Go for a 22 mile ride. Runs better but not happy. Parked and let it sit for 6 days. Yesterday went for a sixty mile ride and it runs like new. As soon as I started it, I new something had changed. That B-12 is making a believer out of me. So, would anyone know why I was getting a ping at low rpm acceleration? ??? It's gone now.

That is where the ping will normally occur if it is going to. Chances are it is carbon in the cylinders or a fuel feed issue that the B-12 cleared up for you. I am leaning toward my noisy motor being a nasty ping as well since I can find no other issue. Cover set is on back order until november for me.

too lean can cause that, by causing a cylinder to start running too hot, so actually it was pre-ignition. B-12 is great, I seem to always get a little better mpg when I use it this has been over at least 10 tanks.

Hey guys, I have only had my Tourer for around 6 months or so and read the 1500 tech page a lot so I can learn more about my bike. I have owned bikes in the past and currently have a shadow 1100 also. My question is what is a cover set and how does it affect the performance. Right now my bike is running fantastic but that could always change at anytime. I also am a fan of B-15 fuel treatment and buy it at Walmart. Thanks for helping to educate me about the best bike I've ever hidden.

TOURUSS. your 1100 doesnt need one. I just sold my ACE Tourer to get the Valk. The cover set is the diaphragm setup for the petcock. It uses engine vacuum to open the petcock when the engine is running. The 1100 has a fuel pump so no need.

Thanks Paladin528, will the carbs being out of sync cause the rpms not to drop between shifts? I think the ace tourer was the best looking and sounding shadow honda built. Mine is the spirit and after buying it I made it look more like the ace. I changed the rear fender, and everything that bolts to it. Changed the struts and seat and changed the front fender now after buying the valkyrie it is for sale. Thanks again

A sync shouldn't cause that but a vacuum leak will.

Be careful with the B-12. Very powerful stuff, and can do wonders if used correctly. I was told by a friend/mechanical to only use the B-12 when doing a road trip and running an entire tank of gas out at a time. Then use the B-12. Do Not Use B-12 for normal stop and go driving! Crap removed from the the gas tank, fuel lines, and carbs are deposited into the engine, if the engine cools those deposits can fuse to valves, cylinder walls, etc and cause damage. This concludes my PSA for the day.

I use it as a maintenance additive every three or so months and usually run a full can to a tank.

FYI - I have also seen this product called B-44K, and exclusively sold at Advanced Auto Parts. They keep it behind the counter, and you have to ask for it.

I luv mechanics who think they know more than the designers and engineers. and that thought/statement is actually attributed to engine crankcase cleaners whereas large chunks form a severely neglected engine could dislodge and clog oil passages. whose gas tank/fuel system is that dirty whereas the fuel system carb/injectors would have failed long ago and the engine wouldn't be running anyway. one of the ways these cleaners work is when the engine is not running a soak of the internal parts happen. running straight hwy to next fill up doesn't allow that to happen. I'm done.

Yep, like I said in my original post. Added the B-12 and then rode 22 miles. Still wasn't right (I wasn't expecting instant gratification) but then let it sit and soak for 6 days. Runs like new now.

What about Techron ? Is it available ? Should be, even if only at a Chevron station. I know I have a can of B12 waiting for spring, but most likely I bought it when I went to Wally World for my spring time T6 oils for my mc and car. Can't remember.

I've been around these boards a long time, but I am not familiar with the term "cover set". What is a cover set?
