I just bought a 1999 Valk and after checking the vin plate, it is a CA smog bike.  I would love to remove the evap can from under the bike to mount a set of air horns but I am not certain where all the hoses go or what job they perform.  Can anybody educate me regarding the removal of that can? Check out Fordmanos post. I don`t think you can just pull the canister, I think you need to do a complete desmog. But thats not a bad idea anyway.  cooldude

You will have to de-smog the bike to remove the cannister. That is time and money (new hoses or a de-smog kit) well spent IMHO.

You can just remove it and leave the hoses alone. It won't effect anything. I too have a California model, I removed the Evap. Can and installed a lift adapter in it's place. Later on when you de-smog there are a few extra steps you will have to do that aren't on the regular Valkyries but they are no big deal.

Sure, if you want Sportsters to pass you by. Vacuum lines need to by sealed or performance suffers. And yes, mine is a California Girl.

I recall that the hoses needed to be joined together after removing the can, as if it wasn't there.

There is NO! vacuum line attached to the canister! There is one vent hose that blows thru the canister which filters what ever comes out of it and the other hose coming out of the canister is just open to the air! Do you two even have a California model ? I ran mine with the canister off for a year before I de-smogged the motor. It will not effect how the bike runs!

My bad there is a small hose that also vents into the canister, it's your gas tank vent hose! Once again not a vacuum line!
