Cry Just got my 1998 Valk 3 weeks ago. I have changed all my fluids, oil, rear end and brake. I have pulled the tank and ran wiring for some speakers and a cigarette lighter/usb handlebar mount. I'm pretty sure all is back together properly. I fuelled up yesterday and ran great. Today ran fine to work about 4 miles but on the way back it started sputtering or misfiring, then finally died. Waited 5 minutes and it cranked and I made it home the extra 300 yards. I shut it off for maybe 3 minutes then cranked it up again. It idled fine for a minute or two then slowly died. I have cobra 6 into 6 with no baffles. Also I noticed the day after I had it that the fuel valve was in the res position for the 100 mile ride home from where I bought it.  I just let it sit for a few hours and then cranked it and tried to ride around my neighborhood. Less the a mile and it died again. Let it sit a few minutes and then it started and I made it home. This sucks. Please help. I am very mechanically inclined but do not know motorcycles. Is it hydrolock , petcock???  Cry

Doesn,t sound like hydrolock. If its locked, it will not turn over.  Pull the rear plug on left side, spin it over, if it turns over it is not hydrolocked.

Perhaps a pinched vent tube when reinstalled the tank?

I checked the vent tube. The one coming off the very back of the tank and going back and down? Seems to be fine?

Cheesy another question. . Have since ran out of gas once.As I stated before, the fuel valve was in the res position I have only ridden locally so haven't run out since. But could I have clogged something by running out. Also I have been putting high octane shell gas in. plus a little seafoam. Is it petcock?

Clearly, if the motor turns over at all, it isn't hydrolocked.

The problem sounds like a venting problem. Take your second key and open the gas cap and run it with the cap open so it vents through the opening. If you have no problems when you run it like that, then it is a venting issue and you did not get back together properly.

Cheesy cooldude U right Moonshot. I got my reading glasses on and was also looking at some other photos on here and discovered I had the small line under the big one on the right side not hooked up. Just got back from a few mile run and seems to be running great. Thanks to all of u for your help. And to this awesome board. I just kept researching and it finally came to me. Thanks again. And Roll Tide !

May be a kinked fuel line.

If I understand your cure correctly, what you actually did was just connect the vacumn line from the manifold to the petcock. The tank vent tube is a single line near the back of the tank. The petcock has two lines on it. One is fuel delivery & the other is the vacumn line which opens the petcock.

If it ran at all even poorly with the vacuum line for the petcock not connected, your petcock is bad and you have half of the scenario needed to actually get hydrolocked
