OK  Quick question.  Putting the choke on (ok, ok enricher) kills the engine.  I have to start up with no choke and using throttle to warm it up.  My standard starts fine with choke and warms up fine with choke on.  Interstate does not.  will start and die.  Would it more likely be too lean or too rich mixture?
Thanks

Valkyries tend to run rich.  If you can't smell it its probably not too rich.  Soot inside the end of the pipes is a good sign it is running rich.  Sound more like a vacuum problem.  Have you checked the vacuum lines and caps, intake clamps and exhaust header nuts?

Yes.  Checked all of the vacuum caps and intake clamps, have not checked header nuts but will check that.

PSA - Go very easy on those header nuts. It's very easy to twist off the studs.

Chris,

Please explain what tightening the header nuts has to do with a vacuum problem.

When I start mine with the enrichers, the engine idles up quickly to 2500rpm's. If I start mine without the enrichers, it hardly wants to idle at all,

and if I then employ the enricher system, it will for sure kill the engine. The reason I surmise is the engine cannot take the extra fuel at such a

low rpm's so it dies, while starting up however it's a different story because the enricher system is totally dependent upon vacuum which is rpm

related. I always blip the throttle while starting a cold engine and enrichers employed.

LOL  Unfortunately I know that too well.  This is a hydrolocked walk that I pulled apart and repaired last winter.  I had finished the entire project, and then snapped one while re-assembling.

Thanks Ricky.  I will give that a try.  Thinking maybe if it is already a little rich, hitting the enricher might bump it too much.  Time to tinker I guess.
