I trust most of you know that the DFW Ride For Kids benefitting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation is Sunday 4 October at Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine, TX.  Janet and I participated in our first DFW R4K last October, and all I can say is wow, what great progress has been and continues to be made thanks to those who have been and remain involved.  (Be sure to wear your dark sunglasses and bring a handkerchief to the post-ride presentation.)  It's such a great cause (and excuse to ride our motorcycles!) that I accompanied Sidecar and Wanderer to the Houston R4K in April.  There was a tremendous turnout and it was really fun to stay at the host hotel and spend the evening before the ride with the staff and task force leaders.

While reflecting on our Houston weekend spent with so many good-hearted riders, volunteers, and staff, a few of us DFW VRCCers got to thinking...  We are spending the night of Saturday 3 October at the DFW host hotel and inviting all of our VRCC brothers and sisters (and everyone else they can bring) to join us for an informal ride-in/get-together/burger & brew the night before the ride.  Wanderer, Sidecar, can you reply with a link to the Springhill Suites?  Thanks.

So, Houston, can you send more than 3?  I know of 2 already.  What about the other parts of the state?  What about LA, AR, OK, & NM?  Fun for a good cause - how can you beat that?

It's all about the kids, folks! This photo is from last year's ride, featuring the local Stars (kids in treatment and even adults that have survived their brain tumors).

The bad news - on average, 9 kids are diagnosed with a brain tumor every day. The good news - Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Ride For Kids raises more money than any non government agency to help kids thru family support and research because of riders like you.

If we can get you to the "Celebration of Life" just one time, you will be back year after year. When the kids share their personal experiences and you realize you have made such a difference in their lives - well, it puts things in a personal perspective that will put a lump in your throat and open your heart. Yes, mirrored sunglasses come in handy for sure.

To get the most out of the weekend make our Sunday event a weekend destination.

You are also invited to help with the ride as a "day of event volunteer". You will need to make one of the two volunteer training sessions. Thursday evening, Oct.1, 7:30pm at the host hotel or Saturday, Oct.3, at 10am, same location. I know Frank (Spoiler) Jenson is coming up from Houston to help out with registration again this year. Yes, you can volunteer and still do the ride with the kids.

The DFW VRCC has been the top fundraising club for our ride three of the past six years. If we can achieve that goal again this year we will have the honor of leading the ride in 2010! If you can not bring your friends, bring their money! We hope to see you soon. Only 24 days until our seventh annual DFW Ride For Kids!

Thanks for the read. The kids will thank you Sunday, October 4th! ~Jeff

I'm planning on riding over with Frank from Houston.  We haven't made travel plans yet but I'll post it when we do.

Great news, Q! Frank (standing) will likely be on his Wing, though he still has his Valk Interstate too.

One of our friends, Craig (he was on The Ghost Ride) will be going as well along with his wife Judy. Their daughter, a senior in High School had a brain tumor a few years ago. She's going for a follow up exam the week after the event. Please keep Courtney in your prayers for good news on the scan.

That sounds like something we'd like to do.  Can't say 100% that we'll be there but we'll sure try.

Bump.

Lemondrop started another thread about saving enough buck$ to pay for most of dinner by booking through hotels.com.  We got the same rate at the Springhill Suites site.

Hmm, I wonder how many VRCCers are going to be there Saturday night...  There are lots of good dinner options nearby.

Volunteering really is fun. My hope is we have as many new faces volunteering as we have seasoned professionals! ~Jeff
