My buddies new bike came with the light bar.

I have no experience with it, having never adding one to my bikes.

When the start button is hit, the bar lights dim along with the OEM head light.

Is this an issue?  Should he change it?

Thanks in Advance

Possibly...

The stock headlight runs through the starter switch...so it shuts off when the starter is actually turning.

If the light bar was just wired to the headlight, that's probably too much current for the starter switch and will eventually melt it or make it not work.

If they used a relay, TRIGGERED from the headlight but powered from the battery, then it's fine, but would still dim when the starter button is pushed as the relay would cut out.

So, check how they wired it, correct as needed.

If it were my bike, I would be doing exactly what Daniel M. said. Make certain that circuit is isolated and a relay is in it. Nice looking light bar! Don't let it get to be a problem. FWIW

Is the light dimming or turning off, then on again?

I didn't have a std/tourer model, and don't have one now to look over, but I think the light (any) should go completely out, not just dim. To me, dimming means not enough power to light it, so power is going somewhere else than the light.

Thanks guys for the help. I think I have it now and found out a few other things. But my wife unit is going to hate you all as I have another project with the Dan-marc switch. So that leaves more nights out in the man cave listening to Alice Cooper on his radio show. LOL..
