Reading through recent posts regarding clutch issues, I thought I'd post a particular issue I've had recently. Transmission shifts easily into 1st, but many times (especially at higher revs) it is not so smooth upshifting into 2nd and 3rd. For  the most part upshifting into 4th and 5th is fine, no problem downshifting throughout, and can easily find Neutral as well. No noises while riding, and I run synthetic oil. Could this perhaps  be due to clutch not engaging properly due to issues discussed on recent posts? Approx. 140,000 km (84,000 mi) on bike.
Appreciate any feedback...thanks.

I doesn't sound like a clutch issue to me.

More likely, a more assertive upshift is needed.  Try preloading the shifter (pull up slightly) right before you operate the clutch lever and upshift strongly.

Thx, appreciate your thought, although I've owned this bike for 15 years and all but a couple thousand of those kms are mine, so I'm pretty used to it. Although, your reply has me thinking maybe it just might be as simple as playing with the setting of the shift lever some more...switched to a new style of boot early this year and with the floorboards there is always limited space to get the foot in there to effect a positive shift. Ya never know....

No disrespect to your experience intended, just offering a common solution to a common complaint.

Smiley None taken Valkpilot...to the contrary, I appreciate your reply in that I'm not the only one who has experienced this and that it could be something as simple as you mentioned  cooldude

Mike, I don't remember if you have a heel-toe shifter or not. I have a GW set, which I didn't like using (but I tried them) on my Wing, as much as I didn't like them on my Valk (MC Ent.).

I like the heel-toe shifter, just not on these bikes. If you are interested, you can try it out. The boot would then no longer be a problem, as you down shift always.

msb,

Take a look at the recent topic of about a month ago titled "simple pivot" in part.

I was having shifting issues similar to what you describe. I did the pivot mod in less than an hour (after ordering the $10.00 in small parts as reccomended).

It now shifts like a dream. Probably the best mod I have ever added.

Gordon, I'm not a fan of heel/toe shifter either, but thank you for the suggestion/offer cooldude
