Found a green and cream at a good price, only got a few hundred miles on it before it had to go into winter storage.  She's a beauty -- has some nice accessories and runs strong.

I will need to find some brass bolts and screws for the fairing to tighten it up.  Tires were installed in 2010 and feel like they have permanent flat spots, OEM stems  Shocked  gotta go.  Needs fresh fluids and splines lubed, desmog and electronic fuel shutoff, etc..  What is the best desmog kit?

The original owner installed some non OEM (and no longer working) lights in the pod vents.  I hoped to replace or remove them.  How the heck do you get the bottom bolt on the right radiator pod off?  I had the left side off, but can't find a tool small enough to get at that bottom right bolt.  Also couldn't figure out how to get the plastic air vent tube out of the left pod to remove the old lights.

The chrome on the bottom of the fork tubes has some flaking and the exhaust headers have some rust.  I'm gonna try to polish the headers up with some 000 steel wool, chrome polish and wax.  If I'm not happy with the result I might wrap the headers.  Has anyone done this on their Valk?  Any install advise or pics?

The bike has peg and rear brake lowering kit with Kury mini floorboards, plus a heel toe shifter.  I was scraping the pegs more than I'd like and will probably have an Austone slapped on; I'm hoping the extra inch will help with that.

The bike has twin air horns installed underneath, I think Rivco?  Does anyone know if those will work with the permanently mounted lift adapter sold on eBay?

Noticed the right front enhancer cable is missing.  I need that in cold Gunnison.  What is the p/n for that?

Think I may have a stuck piston on the left front caliper.  I saw a couple different repair kits on eBay, which one do I need?  Or should I just try to find a replacement caliper?

According to the installed voltmeter alternator is putting out only 13.9v when running.  Think it's going out or should I try new brushes?  Original owner installed 55/60w H4s instead of the OEM 45w, wondering if they may be pulling too much.

Thanks.

On the brake calipers-front and rear-get the PROPER O E M O-rings from Honda. They are easy to rebuild. HOW do I KNOW they are easy to rebuild you ask?? I managed to rebuild mine-hence EASY.  2funny RIDE SAFE.

IMO the best desmog kit is from redeye.ecrater.com.

To take the pods off, you pull three bolts...all easily accessible.  Been a little while, but thought you use a 5 or 6mm hex wrench.

Thanks for the replies, looks like OEM caliper rings and the Redeye desmog kit are on my Christmas wish list.  If I order alternator brushes does the whole alt have to come out to install them?  I heard that is brutal, and if I have to go that route it might be better to just get a new alternator.

I'd double check the alt with a different volt meter the installed one might just be reading low.If it checks okay you could keep the installed on and just watch for any change .

Two issues: first, a safety thing, bleed out and replace  the old brake fluid and the clutch fluid. Brake fluid tends to absorb moisture causing things to corrode and stick. Angry
Second: replace your float needles in the carbs. Those tiny springs will have collapsed by now, possibly causing a hydrolock situation. I know, many have installed a manual or electric fuel shutoff valve, but since you will be doing a desmog, what the heck. New o rings and vacuum plugs as well. Wink

After removing the three bolts you just pull it off (it will be tight) it is held on by rubber grommets (like the side panels) and the bottom bolt holds the pieces of the pod together.

The 55/60W bubs are fairly standard, and shouldn't give you any trouble.

They also shouldn't be the cause of the low V reading.

I would do like mentioned. Confirm your mounted meter matches a good handheld meter. I would also then ride the bike for a while and see if it changes (Gets better).

Good suggestions, thanks.  I'm storing the bike in a borrowed garage and can't do anything with it until spring.  Guess I'll start getting tires and parts ordered.  It's gonna be a loooooooooong winter!
