Grin Just changed the oil for the first time at 1039 miles. Used the Honda oem filter and Valvoline 20-50w full synthetic Motorcycle oil. Next time I'll go with the Shell 5-40w Rotella T-6 full synthetic after reading the oil info on the forum. I have a belly pan on it and as the manufacturer stated, removed the 2 bolts, dropped the front and access to oil filter and plug. Love the oil drain plug and oil filter in the front instead of underneath in the ( mystery ) holes. I figured it was the original oil from Honda from 2014 and going into winter storage was a great time to change. As the manual show's, it took a full 4 quarts to fill. Just another easy maintenance item! Yeah!!!

Actually, I believe it is 4 quarts and a couple of ounces.

Wink I like to run a bit below the top so probably true. I was impressed almost all of the oil drained out on it's own.

I changed my oil yesterday and switched to Rotella T6 synthetic. I began to worry about having the wrong weight (5-40) instead of the 10-30 Honda recommends.

When I read Dan's post he said he was going to use this oil so I put it in. I used a Honda filter that I purchased.

I did not remove the plastic housing to get the filter out, but it was nice that I had a thin filter wrench that fit perfectly.

I'm not sure I noticed much difference in the shifting because the bike is so smooth anyway.

I also installed 3 different charging ports. 1 for the trickle charger, 1 for my heated gear and one USB that I lead up front to charge my phone while riding.

Oh, I also changed the final drive oil to synthetic.

I have around 1100 miles on the bike.

You could have probably reduced the number of wire pigs/plugs and not installed the trickle charge wire harness.  As most heated gear plugs will accept a short wire adapter that allows you to use the trickle charger plus directly into the heated gear plug.  Smiley

Blue,

I was wondering about that because it made sense to me.

Thanks for the head up!

Wink That's a good idea, what did you use for the differential oil?

I used Mobil 1 Synthetic which is what I've used on all of my Hondas with shaft drive and my Kawasaki Concours

Another great synthetic to use is AMS Oil Severe Gear 70x90 weight for any shaft drive rear differentials.  I have used that in all of my Honda, Yamaha and Triumphs.  I just changed my new Valk's oil and shaft rear end a couple of months ago.  Very quiet and smooth and my Yamaha VMax rides much better with this synthetic over the Yamaha OEM stuff.  You really can't go wrong with any good quality synthetic engine and gear oil.  Smiley
