Wanting to get a Standard stock seat reupholstered in leather! Four pieces; the two seats, and two backrests. Can anyone point me to a good leather man that can make a seat snap? Stock seat is comfy for me; I don't need it reworked or modified. Just want the looks. Thanks for any leads. Danny Mac.

You can do a google search for custom seat makers and see what you find.  I have no one to recommend.

You can also ride around to all local (or not too far) upholsterers, ask them to come out and look at the work/bike, and ask if they can do what you want.  If they pass, they may be able to recommend someone they think is up to the job.

I bet the second choice is under half the price of the former.

You pays your money and you takes your chances.

If, in your profile, under forum profile information, you put your City, State in the location field, we will be able to see where you are from and perhaps someone local to you will recommend a good motorcycle seat upholsterer.

I had the seat and pilion on my 89 Shadow re-upholstered a couple of years ago at a local shop.  Cost me $150 and I supplied the material.  I had already bought a good grade of marine quality vinyl thinking I would do it myself.  Figured since I own a sign shop and we wrap vehicles, how hard could it be.  After a couple of attempts, I succumbed to the lesson I learn on a regular basis--"Hire a professional."

For show it might be kinda nice and unique.  But, even Ultimate Seats stopped making their seats in leather.  Read what Des says about it on his site.

Danny, my wife and I are upholsterers and have done more than a few motorcycle seats. I don't know where you're located, but you should be able to find a decent shop to help you out. A word of advice, look at the shop, don't discount it if it's a mess. If it looks like controlled chaos, and there is some work in progress that you can see, use your best judgement. I can't remember that last time I've seen a tidy upholstery shop.

Ask if they've done bike seats, and if you can see any pix. Look for wrinkles or evidence of a loose fit.

Also, vinyl is final. I like the idea of leather, but the cons outweigh the pros.....

Mark81 and Baldo...Thanks for the information. I had a very good friend, Herb Reid, who did leather seats all over the World, was featured in more rags than I've ever read, and I was exposed,( I hung out in his shop), to some of the best work ever done! He passed bout five years ago, and believe it or not, I never had him do any of my seats. He was always 8-10 months behind, and it just never happened. I don't have any locals in the area that I would use for leather work. I also play with old cars, and have looked at some beautiful work, but the good ones are always behind, and booked up! Just thought someone on this site would have had some good work done, and would point me in the right direction. I'm thinking leather with lizard or ostrich inserts, and about three to four different colors. Thanks again for the replies. I have tried to post pictures several times on this site, but it always claims file too big!

Danny, I've used alligator, ostrich, even stingray. They all look great if done right.

And that's a good point about how busy your friend was. If a shop doesn't look busy and can take you right away, beware.....

Where are you located? I belong to a couple of good upholstery forums and might be able to help.

Danny our Photostash requires the pictures to be 100kb or smaller.
They have free picture resizers you can download. I make a copy of a picture then resize one of the pair so I have the original size for other uses.

I had him do my seat since the Corbin did not hold up, great job, looked nice, reasonable.
