About a month ago the guy across the street can over and wanted to talk bikes. He rode about 10 years ago and stopped after getting married. He and his wife decided to start riding again. He told me liked my valk and was leaning towards getting a cruiser. We talked for about hour and I told him I would look for a good valk for him.

I found one in a nearby town. A 98 tourer with 7,800 miles for $6.800. I put him in contact with the owner and left it at that. Since then I got busy and forgot all about it. He comes to my door a few nights ago and said “come out and look at my new bike” ok, so I did. Sitting in my driveway was a 2010 Honda fury. Not exactly the bike we talked about a few weeks before but alright let’s look at it. I have seen them in the showrooms and they look good. He gave me the keys and told me to ride it and tell him my thoughts.

The fury is a good bike for overall fit and finish. Lots of chrome and the paint is normal Honda first rate. Comfort wise, if you are like me 6 foot and above you will be a bit cramped {monkey nd the football thing} . The bike feels like it was made for a guy 5’10 170lbs. The fury has good power {not like our valks but hey it is a v-twin} for a bike it size. She went right up to 70mph with no problem. On the other hand brakes are nothing to rant about but will do the job when needed. I rode it for about 10 miles and it was 10 miles too long for my butt. The seat is horrible. Handling wise, my mind tells me keep it out of the curves but I did not get a chance to test it in the hills so my opinion maybe wrong.

As I was nearing the house I was crafting in my mind what I was going to tall my friend about his bike. I decided to comment on all the good things and let him realize the bad items over time. Overall I found the fury a good bike for in town day to day back and forth to work riding. I myself would not take it too far till I fixed the seat and a short windscreen to take the wind off the chest.  My impression is those that want the Fury will buy it right way. I have only seen 1 on the road here in town and I did not get a chance to ask the owner how he likes it. But I see this bike going the way of the Rune, sitting in crates for years to come.

Liking them and the practicality of them is a different story. I think they look cool, but from what I hear they don't ride worth a darn and no storage, just not practical.

no offense taken....they're NOT for everyone. Ride good? OH YES, better than EITHER of my two Valks (but i still love them too!). They're faster than my Valks...stop quicker...handle just as good or better. AS COMFORTABLE? NO. AS MUCH STORAGE? NO...though i do have Corbin "glove boxes" on both of mine.

That said...quite a few guys on the Rune board DO have Corbin saddlebags....and therefore, have everybit as much storage as my Valk Tourer has. In fact, MANY on the Rune board ONLY have Runes...and...between the accessories they've added, they treat them and ride them like GOLD WINGS...going cross country...on IRon Butts....etc.

So, they can be practical...even two up (they have two up seats by Corbin...and several aftermarket folks make passenger pegs to add on the bike!).

BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE....they ride EXTREMELY good....and fast....corner good..etc. Trust me, i have TWO EACH Valks and TWO EACH Runes...and....i ride ALL of em' constantly (Sherry doesn't ride that much....unfortunately....even though two of them are "sort of" hers...and she does ride em'....just...not much).

But .....they aren't for everyone. Furthermore, now...you can get a brand new Rune (IF you can find one of the few brand new ones left...and they are getting VERY hard to find)...for around 15k....all day long............

i bought my two "back in the day" years ago when they were still going for well over 20k (think more like 22-24k)....and they were worth every penny to me. But now, we have guys joining the Rune board DAILY....who pay under 16k for new ones...and buy used ones for even less............

Truth be known, if the Fury had been offered in an 1800 engine, that would have probably been the fifth bike in the garage.........

Why so? You weren't slamming anyone or bike. You stated the Fury wasn't for you. Nothing wrong with that. Its a good old honest opinion. Redvalk didn't mean anything by his post. At least I didn't take it that way.  Undecided

I always think when I see one that if Buck Rogers had a motorcycle, it would be a Rune.  cooldude I'd love to have one!
I think the sales figures for the Rune reflect the fact that everyone that wanted a new one, bought one.  I just don't think there was a large enough market to support such an "ahead of it's time" bike.  Likewise, the total sales market for the Furry may lead it to the same sales performance and therefore longevity.

Any Canadian owners of Runes in this group.  I wonder how much they go for up here.
I would't mind owning one

quite a few on the Rune board. they cost more up there...much more. And there are some limitations on warranty work too from what i understand...ie...crossing the border...getting work done...etc. more details can be found on the Rune board..........i just see posts about guys from Canada and their issues from time to time..........

Not sure why the one guy said he'd never post a thread like this again??????????  i don't see anyone saying anyting bad.......
