« on: December 15, 2015, 04:58:47 PM »

Here are the details for the New Year’s Day (NYD) Ride.

We will meet at the Chevron station at I17 and Carefree Hwy (3150 West Carefree Hwy). Kickstands up at 10 AM. We will head out towards Hwy 60 to Salome AZ for a gas up at the R Z Mini Mart (about 11:30 AZ time) I called there and they will be open on NYD. This (RZ Mini Mart) is where we will meet the SOCAL guys. We will than take Hwy 72 into Parker AZ and to the Sundance Saloon. There we will enjoy the Colorado River and lunch (about 1:15 AZ time). I’m planning to return home the same way we came, but if any of you would like to take I10 back or go up to I40 and then home you will be on your own. Please let me know if you plan to participate.  Happy Holidays and hope to see you on New Year’s Day.  cooldude

Here is a list of people who have sign up so far. If you’re planning on going please post on this thread and I will add you to the list.

We going to cross the dam and come back to Parker via the California side?  Are we going rain or shine? Cold or colder?

Just curious...

Yes that was the plan after lunch only if everyone was interested in doing that. Weather will have to be very very very very very bad before I would cancel. Hope this info helps you make a decision.

If you use Google maps, it shows the gas station as 3150 West Carefree Hwy.

Hey Ron - just didn't know if we would plan on an alternate day in case the weather was bad since we have people riding in from all over. For some of us 40 degrees and rain is very very very very very bad. As I have already stated I AM a wimp.

The alternate plan would be to take your cage.  Grin  Grin  Grin

If the weather is bad enough we would just cancel, but this is all desert riding and no freeways. It is one of the best routes for a NYD ride. If the weather is bad enough to cancel I don't think an alternate route would help.

Not sure why you think I am being negative.  I want to go for a ride, but, I don't want to be miserable in doing so.  If NYD turns out to be a lousy day, I would prefer to go on an alternate day, like the very next day - Saturday, if the weather is supposed to better.  But, it sounds like riding over mountains with 20' visibility appeals to some folks.

If you guys want to ride in rain, snow, cold or gloom of night, knock yourselves out.  However, I have no problem at all doing a NYD ride on Jan 2 if need be.  Cheryl and I will have hot buttered rums in front of the fireplace and think of you guys.  Smiley

Figure meeting the group around 10:30 at 74/60. Does this sound about right? I'd like to tag along as least as far as Salome.

Thanks for setting this up.

I think they are just giving you a hard time  cooldude Besides it never rains here anyway, it's going to be awesome. Look forward to meeting you guys  cooldude As an aside it wasn't really that bad going over the pass with limited visibility . I might have exaggerated a little. Although I did pucker up a little when I hit a pothole in one corner and the front wheel lost traction for a little. I let out a slight whoa sound and my wife asked what was up. She never felt a thing.

Well the 31st I work. The early morning of the 3rd I fly out to Hawaii for a week, so I need the 2nd to finish packing to go on the trip. That leaves only the 1st for the ride for me.I have set up alot of these NYD rides over the years and have never had and alternate day plan. After all it is a NYD ride!!  What you do on the 2nd is up to you I will not be there. Feel free to use the plans that are set up.

Psycho is having eye surgery today... if he can see well enough by then, we will be there.
Probably won't know for sure until a day or two before.

So put f6gal and Psycho down as possible/probable.

Well, I did a pre- NYD ride to Salome today.  I was trying to see if I could fit Vulture Mine Road into the NYD ride, but it would add at least 30 minutes to the ride and we would have travel maybe 20 miles of dirt road. I thought Aguila Road was paved north of Vulture mine to the town Aguila. I guess not or at least today it was not. (Does anyone remember if this road was previously paved? I swear it was? It’s tough getting old (and handsome)  Smiley Well Vulture Mine road is out we will stick to the original plan.

I drove into Salome and visited the only 3 gas stations in the area. 2 of them still don’t know if they will be open NYD, so we are sticking with R Z Mini Market. Now let me tell you I only pick the elite places to stop for you guys.  Smiley  This place has 4 gas pumps, a toilet as in 1, liquid refreshments, and you can even order a pizza. The brick work on the side of the building really adds to the décor. (See pictures below)

I also confirmed with Sundance Saloon today, because their web site is no longer up. No worries they will be open they are just redoing the web page.

Things are looking good for the ride. Hope we have good weather. BTW the wind was crazy today.  crazy2

Really windy here today. The worst I've seen in a long time. I'm planning on making the ride just don't know if I want head out on Thursday or Friday early. Dennis was kind enough to offer me a room for the night and I'm leaning toward taking him up on it. Hey Dennis could you put up with me for 2 nights?

I'm out as well.  My SO is sicker than a dog.  Offered to take her to the vet and have her put down, but she declined the offer. As I recall we bowed out the last NYD ride for the same reason.

You guys have a safe ride.
