Well I ordered up my new valve stems from Jake Wilson (thanks beanman).
That got me looking at tires for the I/S.  I definitely need a front, not so much a rear.
Currently (from PO), have a Bridgestone Exedra (ft) and Dunlop E3 (rr).  Going to go with Avon Cobra's.
What's the best price you have seen on these, and is there a better time of the year to get good prices?
I see them currently (Jake Wilson) at $145 for 150/80HR17 and $150 for the 180/70HR16.  Is that about as low as they go?
Also I notice that some recommend the 200/60VR16 ($164) for the rear due to larger ground contact area.  Would there be any negatives to going this route?  I realize this tire is about 1/4" less in diameter.
Thanks in advance!

I always used the larger rear tire before going with a car tire. My personal choice for front and rear is Metzeler, wife just bought me a new front tire for Christmas, $135 at Jake Wilson. The old one had over 15k miles on it. I always got around 12k on the larger rear before the c/t. You might have to remove the right side nut cage on the rear fender bolt, easy job.

Bridgestone make tires specific for Valks and Wings. Exedras 701F and 702 R. I've got 11,200 mi. on the rear and front. Planning on changing out @ 12,000 on the rear. The reason I mentioned this was Jake's Exedras were a different tread pattern than 701/702 variety.

larger OEM DIA tire will provide more contact patch area than a smaller DIA wider tire. plus the 200/60 has less tread depth than OEM size

I know that this subject is very similar to "oil & filters", but here goes.  I just replaced my Metzlers with Cobras because they were getting thin at about 7500 highway miles.  Personally, I like the 200/60 rear tires, so that's what I run.  They seem to handle a little better on both my bikes and that big fat rear tire just looks good on a big fat Valkyrie.  And all my tires have come from Jake Wilson for the last few years...Jim

Yep, around 150 bucks for the avon cobras is about as low as they will go, give or take a few bucks.

I had the avon cobras and still have 12K on my front tire, but had to replace the avon cobra at near 10K miles on my rear tire.  Went with the shinko SE890 Journey as well on the rear tire for around 125 bucks.

Not much cheaper, but so far, so good, some 2000 miles later.  I think both are fine and should last hopefully about the same for me around 10K for the rear tire.  I should consider replacing the front tire though since 15K on it next year sometime will be pushing it I think on the avon cobra front tire.

presently have 18,430 miles on rear E3  and 16537 miles on a rear ContiGo 130/90-17 on the front.
E3 has about another 1-2k miles to wear bars, ContiGo about another 2-4k miles left.
Contigo can be found usually for about $100.
