We will be in Ft. Worth on Wednesday for the Xmas weekend. Thursday and Friday I will be busy with the In-law traditional do-do for Xmas. Weather permitting, I would welcome suggestions from the DFW Group on your favorite roads. Scenic, long straight, doesn't matter as long as it is not heavy traffic roads.
I don't seek out twisters, but if that's what you have, I'll take it. Any help will be appreciated, TIA,

Eli, aka Red Diamond

...not ignoring you, but I'm on the opposite side of the Metromess, and honestly can't say I've got any real favorite roads around here. Most of the roads here are just what I ride on to get to the nice roads. =\

Eli, I'll put some suggestions up for west and north of you.

Eli, here's a route that takes you to Mary's in Strawn for chicken fried steak.  The DFW group took the first half of this route a couple of years ago on a ride.  The second half takes you along the shoreline of Palo Pinto Lake.  It's about 200 miles, total.

Maps and driving directions here.

I don't know my holiday weekend schedule yet, but it might could be that some of the DFW group would want to join you on one of these routes since we missed our December meeting.

Interested parties should chime in.

Looks like Thursday will be a good day weather wise, but if it benefits others for Saturday that will be good also, would love for you and others to join me.

Here's another.  This one's got three good eating places along the way.

Maps and driving directions here.

Regarding eats,  there is

Ranchman's Steakhouse in Ponder.  I like the cheeseburger with jalapenos and home-cut fries (get some milk gravy for the fries) or the chicken fried steak.

Greenwood Grocery (closed on Sundays) in Greenwood.  One word: BURGER.

Sweetie Pie's on the square in Decatur  Homemade apricot fried pies hit the spot.

I'd like to, but don't know if I can make Thursday work.  We'll see.

Thinking south and west and chicken fried steak and pie...

The route VP posted to Strawn in a nice ride.  Not on that route, FM 51 from Weatherford south to Granbury is nice, and from Granbury through Paluxy to 67 is great.  There are lots of nice roads down there south and west of Granbury and you're close to Hico for pie at the Koffee Kup.  5_19 is in Dublin and knows all the backroads down there - paved and unpaved.  Maybe he'll chime in.

If you are in that neighborhood, don't miss 4 from Santo to Palo Pinto.  It's on VP's route.

When riding to and from the Hill Country, I sometimes keep going north from Palo Pinto and hit 380 in Jacksboro.  It's a nice road to Bridgeport (not bad to Decatur) and you can get a mean malt at Yesterday's in Bridgeport.

I can't do Thursday, but I'm a candidate for Saturday.

Ely,
Check your PM.

Disco left me a msg yesterday and I can show you around on Thursday. We could meet up in Grandbury in the morning and go south from there. That doesn't sound good but it will be. Trust me!!

Just getting settled in at the Hyatt Place, gotta get a good nights rest. With all this talk about microwave and refrigerator size boulders, maybe I should rent a dirt bike, TJ rides a monster. My little bike may not be able to keep up.

TJ "5-19"  lead me on a ride this Christmas Eve I will remember for a long time. The scenery was endless on every road, be it FM or county road, and there were many. He took the time to show me roads and sites I never would of found riding alone. Saw the oldest suspension bridge in the state, thanks again TJ, I enjoyed every minute. Thank you Valkpilot for submitting those routes.

I'm glad you had a good ride, Eli.  Those routes I posted will be there for the future.

Merry Christmas, friend.

Here is the actual route we took. It ended up varying quite a bit from the ones Valkpilot posted.

This route started in Granbury and ended in Bluff Dale at the oldest suspension bridge in Texas.
