My 2000 I/S has the stock windshield.  My wife says she's getting too much wind when we ride two-up.  It buffets her helmet and she gets a sore neck/headache after a while.  When we ride, I can put my hand at the top of my helmet to feel the airflow and the air is definitely being deflected just barely over my head, right into her face.  We still have a stock seat, and she's 5'5".

The info I need is: how much taller than stock do I need to go to eliminate/reduce the buffeting for the rear passenger?  2", 4", 6"?  I'm not interested in a "which windshield is best" discussion (Tulsa, etc.) as that is entirely too subjective.  Simply how high above stock do I need to go to reduce the wind for the passenger?

Thanks gang.

I had a shield that was 22" from chrome plate to top of windshield, I think that is 7.5" over stock.
My wife said she got very little wind.
I just replaced it last week with a 13" (2.5 under)
I replaced it because I could not see over the tall shield.
I live in Florida and the shorter one is nice because I get a little wind, nice for hot days.

I have a showchrome windshield that is two in taller and 4in per side wider. My wife is 5'10" and she  gets just alittle wind hitting her helmet.  I tried a tulsa on mine that was 6" taller but if I rode in the rain I had to look thru it and if I leaned forward to get on or off I sometimes hit it with my helmet.

I put a 10.5" black one (5"shorter than stock) on my bike and my wife says she needs goggles now.  I really like it for summer riding, but will go with a large, lightly smoked shield for the winter.  Winter here in South Texas is from November to March.  The shield I replaced was the original, replaced at 45k.  I think I will go with a 2.5" longer than stock clear shield for the winter.  My wife said nothing about the wind with the "stock" shield so the 2.5" longer one will probably be nice for her too.

I would go with 2 inches higher and about 4 inches wider  I made this change for my passenger and it worked great.  She gets a little wind but I can still see over the windshield when I have to.  I am 6 foot seat is stock

I have a 00 I/S and it came with a Tulsa 6" higher and 2" wider than stock. Almost no wind on the passenger. I like a CeeBailey 2" under stock, but the passenger gets blasted and needs a full face helmet and ear plugs.

Thanks for everyone's advice.  I think I'll start with a +2" shield and see how she likes it.

OK I guess now we can get into the "which windshield is best" conversation. Wink  I see there's a Show Chrome shield available that's +2.5" tall and +4" wide.  Anybody know anything negative about this particular shield?  Basically I'm looking for a reason NOT to buy it.....   Thx

I would talk to ClearView.  They will tell you what they think and be honest about it.  I have bought 2 shields from them for another bike and they are good people to deal with.  It will take a while to get a windshield from them, but well worth the wait and the price.  I have a Showchrome on my I/S that I modified.  Didn't take any off the height nor any off the width.  I just rounded out that strange looking cut-out on both sides.  My I/S windshield had been cleaned with Windex for 8 years when I got it, so I needed one "now" or I would have gotten a ClearView.  I really don't have any gripes about the Showchrome, but I think that the wife puts up with a little more buffeting than she should.  She just likes to go on "bluebird days", so I don't go very fast when she is along.  Surprisingly, I find it kinda relaxing to just doodle along down the back roads and take in ALL the scenery....JTL

 aviaator,

I agree w/ Pharmboy... I have a clearview shield on my I/S and it is the 2in tall and 4in wider or something like that...  It is a great shield if you are riding two up.... I have been riding my tourer and it has the clearview shield with the vent and oh is it nice...  My advice to you would be to call the guys up and clearview and they are very very friendly and helpful.  They make a fantastic product and the contour of the shield eliminates any buffeting and the semi's going by doesn't "shake" like the oem shield did...  I went with the tented shield and love it but sure wish I had the vent in it... So my two cents would be to talk to clearview and if you decide on them get the vent as well it is well worth the money!!!! Let us know what you decide in the end... Always curious to know what folks go with and how they like it afterwards... That helps us give our opinion down the road...  Ie.. some like showchromes and others like clearview... kinda thing...

Best of luck.. cooldude

I've been real happy with the showchrome but that's JMHO.  I'm 6'2" and can see over the top of mine if it raining. Smiley

Thanks for the replies guys.

I found a Show Chrome tinted shield on eBay for $75.  The auction was about to end so I jumped on it -- probably an impulse buy.  I figure I can try it and if I need to go taller I can prolly sell it for what I paid and get a taller Clearview or even the skyscraper Tulsa...  Grin

Thanks again, I'll post after it's installed and I get a few rides under my belt for evaluation.

OK I found part of my problem.  I received my new Show Chrome +2.5" windshield on Friday.  When I went to change shields, I looked a little closer at the engraving in the corner of the shield currently on the bike.  It said "Clearview," not "Honda."   Hmmmm.  I held the Show Chrome up to the one (I assumed was stock) currently on the bike and it's a good 4.5" taller.  That means the PO had put a -2" Clearview on, and I was too stupid to read the fine print.

Bottom line:  airflow is MUCH better for passenger.  No more complaints from behind me.

PS and FYI I'm 5'9" and I look through the top of the Show Chrome (+2.5" from stock), not over it.  Might be a prob with rain...
