Today I removed the tank and airbox. Been so many years I forgot what a PITA the airbox was. Made worse by some wiring I've strung in there. I'll be doing some repositioning of some wiring, will probably remove some of the purple accent lighting, then want to redesign the fuel feed system and replace the inline filter while in there. Been at least six years, maybe more judging by the air filter. Also plan to redesign the cruise control vacuum system and replace all the hoses needed for it.

Wish I could have joined all of you for the Jan. 2nd ride-in, but it's not to be. Another day....another time.

I don't think any one would bad mouth you if you came on 4 wheels.

Bill, you're probably right but transportation isn't the issue. You all have fun....and stay dry.  Wink

There is a trick, I can drop one in with out any problems. I use tie wraps, bend the tubes to the center of the box and tie them there. Drop in in and cut the tie wraps. Easy peasy.

Well, the fuel filter was fine but replaced it anyway. I had five vacuum lines for the cruise with a check valve in each line, three didn't work anymore. I was having some major hesitation with engagement so installed all new hoses except this time I'm only using three and capping off the remaining vacuum ports. Replaced all the check valves while in there. Noticed there was a lot of slack in the servo connection to the carb linkage so shortened that a bit so should be a bit more positive again. Also replaced the fuel lines in the area between the petcock and the tee where it branches off to either side. Removed the purple LED's I had under the tank which got rid of some wiring. Reinstalled the airbox, always an enjoyable afternoon, actually went in with little trouble. When it comes time to clamp the hoses down, I use a short block of 2x4 on top of the airbox after installing the filter and lid...filter needed a good cleaning. Then use a ratchet tie down hooked on the engine guard on each side and pull the airbox down into position. Install the bolt at the back, check each rubber intake to make sure they're not curled under then tighten down the hose clamps. When it's all nice and snug, I remove the tie down and nothing moves. Using the tie down leaves both hands free to tighten everything, instead of trying to hold the box down with one hand and then tighten stuff. The tank is in place with the sender connected, just need to connect the fuel line to the petcock and install the vent tube. I'll probably give it a good run before replacing the radiator pods, want make certain the fuel is flowing freely and the cruise is working right. If so, then I'm reading to ride again....until the spirit moves me to pull the rear end down. However the spirit is taking a few weeks off!   cooldude

Then it's back to the 1200, need to get it completed and running, after which I'll decide which bike I'm going to sell. Since my duties at home now pretty much prevent me from traveling as before other than local rides, I'm questioning whether I need a big touring bike. That's a decision to be made somewhere down the road I guess. I have had some "interesting" offers but so far haven't acted on them. I'm definitely not ready to hang up my helmet.  cooldude

Just taking care of my honey. Pretty rough lately, that Saturday night she had the tremors so bad it got downright scary and she panics when it gets really bad. I was up past 3:00am Sunday morning, she said she was still up at 5:30am. I got up about 10:00am Sun. morning and was exhausted, slept off/on all day. It wears you down.

I don't take offense at the inquiry, I really had wanted to go but couldn't. I try to keep the worst of these events sorta private, but it's happening more and more often.

Strangely enough, today Rita is near normal except when we folded some sheets she had to sit down after just one....all out of breath.

I was sleeping almost all day. My little jaunt up to Atlanta resulted in about 8 hours of sleep over 3 days...had a GREAT time though!!
