I see many different pictures of some beautiful Valks on this site. I've noticed that some bikes have what appear to be "caps" over the carbs. On others they appear to have open "stacks" Apart from cosmetics, what are the differences? What is the real name for these parts, and how would I order these "stacks"? Does water build up in them during heavy rain? Thanks

The open topped ones are "Velocity Stacks" and actually have a plastic cap under them. They are designed to drain any water out but can hold a little at times. Some just glue/tape "filters" to the top of their carb caps. Not sure where to buy but google should pull up options Stacks http://www.aeromachmfg.com/V_Stacks_Honda_Valkyrie_p/am-2410hc.htmFilters bought probably at a auto parts store

So are these velocity stacks primarily for show, or do they enhance proformance. I saw a video of some one who placed LEDs inside them to give them a flickering fire effect. That might be something I would like to try

I found mine on eBay run about 200-250. You may want to consider shimming the tank as I have heard of a few guys getting dents in the tank from gas sloshing. I zip tied a couple old truck radiator hoses to the frame to sit the tank up about a little bit more .

BigBF sells a shim kit with a very thick washer to shim the tank. Works great. If you don't use it, the stack will rub on the tank. So are these velocity stacks primarily for show, or do they enhance proformance. I saw a video of some one who placed LEDs inside them to give them a flickering fire effect. At one time, MarkT was going to sell sets of LEDs for the velocity stacks. Don't know if he ever did market them or not. btw....there's no such thing as a dumb question on this board, only questions that haven't been answered yet.

How does the paper (if it is paper) element hold up? Inquiring minds want to know!

They are cosmetic only. Non functional. No filter required.

I've got those little air filters on my Tourer--compliments of the previous owner. Not something I would have done, but have not gotten around to remove them--now I kind of like 'em. I think they are applied with double sided tape.

Double sided tape is good, but I went with heavy duty Velcro circles. Easier to move if you are working under the tank.

Your post made it sound to me you thought they where functional and you wanted to know how a filter worked in there.
