Hey Everyone,

I purchased my Valkyrie used back in November.  Being new to the Valkyrie I've spent a lot of time reading the threads in the forums of VRCC.  Thanks so much for all the insightful information; I've already learned a ton.

Now here's the question, and forgive me if it's a stupid one.  What is this cable for that was under my seat?
http://vrcc.photostash.com/vrcc_37332/cable.jpg

It can been seen in a few different spots in the service manual, but it's never specifically labelled or mentioned as far as I can tell.  And it's clearly not the battery strap:

From the pics in the manual it looks like it belongs on the safety hook under the seat... However, if it's part of the seat assembly it isn't shown or mentioned there in the manual:

Thoughts?

Guess it is a helmet strap, I have a longer version I made.
Slip it through the helmet D rings then over the hook and replace the seat, hopefully thieving sods cannot walk off with your helmet.

Your guess is correct.

Honda's attempt at a helmet lock.

Seems like an after thought.

I agree. It's about the dumbest helmet lock I've had on a bike in 43 years. I think I've used mine twice. The ones on the I/S are much better but even they need those little extenders.

BigBikeParts makes a pin that replaces the clutch pivot bolt. It provides a locking place for the D rings. The pin kit comes with a small padlock. I've used mine for many years.

Wow, that's a terrible helmet lock. Thanks guys for the quick response. I'll have to look into those options for a different lock. Thanks.
Yeah so far I really love VRCC and I'm really itching to ride my Valk come spring.
Bone, thanks for the instructions on posting pics.
Ken, not sure about Inzane yet. It all depends on $$$ for travel and if I can get time off from work (wife is still guilt-tripping me for splurging on the Valk - "you already have a bike" - they just don't get it, ha ha). As well, my old man and I are planning on doing Oregon coast this year which will be a first for us.
Ken I noticed in your profile pic that you've covered most of the states EXCEPT Utah. You should do some riding through some of Utah's world renowned national parks - Zion, Bryce, Arches, etc. - you won't be disappointed.
Thanks again everyone.

Yeah Wayne, hard to believe for me to have hit all those states on a bike in the West and have missed Utah. Did get there in a car 2 years ago when went to see sister in Sacremento. It definitely is a beautiful and amazing state to see, wife and I went to several of the parks. I may get there in September, I'll be going to Billings, MT for Wing Ding. My plan is when leave Billings to go see my sister again, and will route through part of UT. I have multiple trips planned this year, so hope I can make it all happen.

I keep a gun lock in the saddle bag for this purpose. The inept factory one is lost in a box of bike parts.

I keep a couple in the trunk of the IS, they work well as helmet locks

Keep it! Down the road when people start to restore these Valkyries that cable will be the hardest, most expensive part to find to do a complete restore.  2funny You never know.. Wink

Helmet lock. One of many things about Honda that is sort of irritating. The Valk is such a beautifully engineered machine, mechanically at least. Nearly all the peripheral stuff is like the lock, hack, flash chromed plastic, afterthoughts.
I spent a lot of time over the years slowly replacing things like the fuel selector switch, horn, helmet lock, and other bits to make a high quality bike look like one. So yup, one of the most inventive and innovative companies in the world discovered there was no helmet lock and slapped that together.
