what are some parts you would buy to have on hand if you cant find them in the future? or what do you already have on hand for a back up? Because you know most of us will probably keep this bike tell we die. Just wondering if there are some parts I might want to buy prematurely to have in case they become obsolete.  Shocked

Gas Tires and Oil baby!!

I carry a space ignition module, because the Dyna 3000's are supposed to be a little unreliable.

OK Jabba...  Tell the rest of us about the 'Space' ignition module.  What's the HP gain, and where can we get one?

Good post Rod...I have been thinking about this same question myself.  I just bought a spare generator.  I know there is a gentleman that rebuilds them (http://mysite.verizon.net/resp3jbj/), which I intend to have done if one goes out...but I bought one just in case.  I have started buying just about anything (spare wiring sets, coils, engine covers, etc.) that I come across and they are a good deal.  Things I would like to buy such as spare forks, front fender, etc. are in too high of demand and expensive for me to buy as spares.

I keep a petcock rebuild kit and kickstand spring retainer bolt in the saddlebag.  Shopping with one eye for a drive shaft, pinion cup, u-joint to put on the shelf.

Space ignition modules are a little onthe pricey side... and getting fuel for them has to be done black market... but HOLY COW are they fun when you touch it off!

Sorry... spaRe ignition module.  The 1st Dyna 3000 I had went kazerk pretty quick.  They replaced it with a newer model, and the new one has been good for a few years now... but I still carry the stocker.

Good post Rod. Not many people think about these kind of things. Here is what i keep. So far it all fits in a box out in the shed. i think it is wise to store any part that was valkyrie only. some engine parts may crossover to the wing and all light lenses and tail light assy can be found on other honda cruisers so they SOULD be easy to get for awhile. i was told the VTX 1800 front forks cross over to the valk but i dont know if that is correct.

1. 1 set of valve cover gaskets
2. 2 sets of intake runner o-rings
3. 2 sets of rearend o-rings
4. 1-final drive
5. 1-water pump
6. 1-altenator
7. 1-starter
8. 1-ICM
9. 1-fuel petcock
10. 1-bank angle sensor
11. 1- clutch slave cylinder
12. 2- mastercylinder rebuild kits.
13  1-u-joint
14  1-drive shaft
15. all cooling hoses.

Things I am looking to add are

1 spare set of wheels
2. radiator and cooling fan
3. stock handlebars
4. headlight assy
5. both fenders and side covers and tank
6. spare exhaust

A spare rear end/spline set is a good idea. Starter relay and spare anti-freeze overflow tank along with all cooling system hoses isn't a bad idea either.

great stuff here.
I have an extra airbox! Probably the last thing that will wear out-could not resist bidding, and got it for 9 bucks (+15 shipping), now what the hell will I do with it?
Have extra muffler covers and tips and windshield.
Will be adding most of the other suggested items except those  readily available from after market sources.

nice post

In the bike are some bearings, some sets of o rings (maybe enough for 3 changes) from carolina bike,  guard dog molypaste, metal valve stem, duct tape and first aid kit in case any of my friends has a problem on the road.  Plus some tools and a flashlight and tire gauge. Need to get a replacement headlamp bulb or 2 as well

Gave someone my spare rear brakes in WV, I think it was Andy or LDValk

Have a whole valk rear end off a 00 interstate in my basement including final drive and swing arm but no u joint or trunk maybe I should get one

Also 2 rear wheels, one with a rotor

and also bag rails which I have been meaning to install but dont have the time

Think I mean to keep this bike the  rest of my days

For some of you stockpiling stuff for when it wears out and is no longer available, can you spell paranoid?  Shocked

I have a few extra parts myself.  If my Valkyrie does wear out before I die, I'm hoping to pick up what I need from some of your estate sales.   Grin

For over the road I'd like to have the U-joint and related drive shaft parts on hand . . . along with the wheel bearings.  Other than that I'd just go with the road and not stress over it.  For now I have a spare side stand bolt w/spring, a couple fuses, a tire plug kit, my road service on the insurance policy and my cell phone.  Ymmv,  ???

I wouldn't (haven't) bought a single spare part ahead of time. For me, a second bike is the way to go. I have 150K + on my '97 and I'm on my 3rd alternator. If you have the stock Hitachi unit on your bike you're on borrowed time, even if the bike is still in the crate Wink That said, I can't see riding around with one in my saddlebag, i just got it re-wound/built the second time when I realized it wasn't a fluke. the first time I soldered up the field winding myself.

Spare parts isn't such a crazy Idea. A Friend of mine picked up a crashed Valk  Cry To part out, and went as far as having the stealership rebuild the motor before putting it on a pallet for storage.
