Thanks, I figured that must be where it goes.
All went well, except for the excessive swearing getting the driveshaft in the u-joint. It apparently requires 473 f-bombs to go into place. Someone should update the procedure in shoptalk. It would have been nice to know that ahead of time.
I don't know if you took your shocks off, but when you do that, then
when it comes time to slide the final drive back in, you can
lift the swingarm up and the driveshaft will slide into the ujoint
pretty easy...

Yeah, I did take the shocks off. Still couldn't hit the hole. Moved the swing arm up, down, looked in with a flashlight, put it where I thought it needed to be, wiggled, swirled, turned the final drive to align the splines, swore...repeated that procedure a bunch of times, then it went in, despite not doing anything different than the time before. It's all good.
Just happy the splines were all good. First time doing it, wasn't sure if the PO had serviced it at all, was a little scared of what I'd find. He had all his tire changes done at a dealer, who knows if they serviced the driveshaft. Apparently when they replace the tire, they choose to leave the 3rd o-ring out. Or maybe it was there but they pinched it and it fell apart and got shredded. Who knows.
