I have a question for anyone who has experience with the lifters and the valve springs.  basically the valve drive assembly in general.  I am not able to touch my valk right now and when I get back to the states i intend to pick up the build where I left off.  last time that I ran the bike it sounded like it had a bit of a tap/tick near the #1 cylinder.  I had adjusted the valves not that long before so I am sure that is probably the cause of it.  but just in case its not is there anyone that is familiar with something that could make this sound instead of the valve clearance, i didnt feel any air coming from the exhaust manifold.  also I don't quit remember what it looks like as far as there being lifters and when I look at the diagrams it doesnt show rods instead it shows a different shaft that looks almost like a second cam.  I am sure its not but is that what lifts the rocker arm?  any help on this would be awesome.  I get back to the states in a few months and cant wait to tear into this bike again to get her back on the road.

These have OHC engines, not OHV that you're probably thinking of.

If the noise wasn't there prior to the valve adjustment, then maybe thats the problem.

Exhaust leaks can seem like a valve 'tick' and can be a real to fix at times. If your bike has not been de-smogged then the pair valve could be the source of your tick. All this said, sometimes these monsters just tick. Its one of life's little wonderments, some think its the pump chain and they could very well be right.

Ditto on Patrick's comment, especially the exhaust leak...depending on location and severity. L had one on my Mustang that sounded like someone under the hood hitting it with a hammer

i did do the valve adjustment close to the time it started ticking and i am sure that is what it is.  never thought of the pair valve though.   i do have a desmog kit i purchased and it should be at my house and I am looking forward to putting it on.  one last question though, i know that there are applications where there are still lifters that actuate the rocker arms in ohc engines, does this not apply? do the rocker arms ride directly on the cam?

The rocker arms are directly to the cams. I don't know how loud this ticking sound you have is but that can come from lot of places. Mine has a tick when its on cold start, goes away as it warms up. I think it is exhaust but it doesn't ever get worse so that is just my bike now.

Goldwing 1500's have hydraulic lifters. Valkyries rocker arms ride directly on the camshaft, they are essentially solid lifters.

There is a shaft that sits just above the cams. The valve lifters pivot on this shaft. The cam lobes push on one side of the valve lifters and the other side of the lifter pushes on the valve stem directly.

You didn't mention the drive belts - did you replace them as well? If so, are you certain you kept the cams and crankshaft locked in place when you worked on them?
